I recently had reason to email with Camping World about my brand new Good Sam Club membership and discounts at Camping World.
This part concerned me (I've removed sections that may not be public, such as the coupon code):
"Pricing format on our website has been redesigned since the merge of President's Club & Good Sam Club memberships. The ‘Internet Sale’ price is actually the price of product with discount factored in. An additional discount is not earned on top of already discounted pricing with a valid Good Sam Club membership. At this time, only our store locations require a valid membership to obtain discounted pricing on products & installation. To 'offset' this format on our website, we have Member Only promotions such as coupon code {snip} and the current promotion of free shipping."
So this means GSC members will *not* be getting any special discounts, even though it is (still) advertised as such?
We're going to have to re-evaluate the club membership and its value. The Roadside Assistance still seems like a good deal, but not sure about GSC?
I'm trying to be patient as I know the company is going through some changes and I really respect how Marcus and his team continue to have a sense of responsibility towards customers. But I am wondering if this 'member discount' isn't just a bit...misleading?
Keep in mind I posted the above so others won't be misled. I don't know if anyone else knows this or not?
I look forward to Marcus' explanation. He seems to have good reasons for his decisions.
I had been looking at the prices after someone else posted here about the same thing. I am not sure that offering everyone who orders on the internet the "discounted" price, and having a different price in the store is going to hold up. I can't imagine not having to show membership to get the discount... from either location... store or on-line.. I know that is not the way it is right now, but would like to see that addressed.. especially for someone like me who has to drive 100 miles to a CW and orders most everything on line.. Please tell me why I shouldn't just drop my membership and continue ordering at the "member discount" price via the internet.
I don't see it as an issue either. We have this thing call "the internet". If CW can beat Amazon and their free shipping over $25 then I buy from CW. If not, I buy from Amazon, or whoever else is cheaper. I don't play the discount games with these companies when I have the entire world at my finger tips. LOL. We live in a very rural area. 20 miles to a town of 8,000. You know how much I have to buy on the internet. Just about everything. I have always said, "buyer beware".
I started opening my mail today. I received a 2nd warning notice about my vehicle and that I only had 5 days to respond because my vehicle warranty was going to expire and I Had to respond immediately. What?
This is trash stuff, just like the junk I receive from CW and GS. BURN BARREL! Glad I live in the country so I can have a huge burn barrel.
CW linked up with GS for one reason. RVers are getting too smart and buying from Amazon and other places. CW is hoping GS will draw them in some business, especially from new RVers.
My criteria is: Price, how fast it is shipped, and return policy.
All businesses have 'small print' / 'advertising' designed to "sail right up to the legal issue line" and no further!
Here is a typical one that 'Big-Box' stores use.....
..."If you can find the same product for less, we will refund the difference/we will beat the price"...
One will never find a comparison to be able to do that because....what looks the same at two different stores might have a....switch in a different location/the decals might differ/colour might differ/serial number might differ and so on and so forth!
Lawn Mowers and Snow Blowers is a classic example!
It is all to do with the sales angle...that is capitalism, is it not?

"Good Sam Club members save up to 30% at Camping World"
It also says join for $20, I paid $25 yesterday in order to get discounts...
Opinions are welcomed and I'm sure we'll get an appropriate response from Marcus- in all his *spare* time
Maybe I didn't understand the post. I don't think anyone is saving 30% by buying at camping world. That is just advertizement scam. That has been around a long time. Ignore it. Just check out all the web sites. Everything is free. Hmmmmmmm. Free credit checks, free this free that. Somehow I just never fell into this logic of believing this scam stuff.
I think he'll see the issues, too.

Why are you so upset with junk mail WyoTraveler? If it weren't for junk mail the post office would either be out of business or only delivering one day a week. Without junk mail you wouldn't have anything to burn.
The thing that amazes me is how fast we all get on junk mail lists. I opened up a new POB a year and a half ago when I went full time. No junk mail for about six months and now.........amazing. Can I borrow your barrel WyoTraveler?
One time I got to use the "We will beat any price on comparable product by 110%" eye8Ubutler. Yes, they said they would refund your original purchase price plus 10%.
Back in about 1995 I bought a DirecTV system from Circuit City. I had been thinking about it for a while, but finally got up and pulled the trigger late on a Saturday afternoon. They had a "self install kit" for $75.00 additional that had an assortment of nuts, bolts, etc. that I could have picked up individually for a lot less, but I wanted to watch TV NOW! So I bought the kit and went home and installed it. Everything worked great.
A couple of days later my son-in-law bought the same set up to give his father for Christmas and Circuit City had a "one day only special" on the install kit. It was $0.01. Soooooooo
I borrowed my son-in-law's receipt and went to Circuit City. I asked about their low price guarantee and they proudly told me all about it. I then showed them my receipt and my son-in-law's receipt and asked them for my 110% refund. The clerk looked like a deer in the headlights. They could not argue about the difference in the product since it was their store and their exact item number. They were the competition.
The manager was called over and he just grinned as he instructed the clerk to issue me a credit for the original $75.00 plus $7.49.
It was a great day and a lot of fun. The little guy wins one every now and then.
