Is there a way to keep the wind and rain from putting out our hot water heater???

I assume it's just the pilot light. Should have a wind shield around it and it may need adjusting.

Does it blow out when on full burn? or just when only the pilot is lit?(assuming you don't have electronic ignition)

First there is no electric element, and we live in a high wind area, we put a cooler in front of it, but when it rains hard it goes out was just wondering if there was something better we could put in front of it

Welcome to the Forum!

Providing some basics about your unit will help you to get more useful responses.

I would imagine that some adjusment to your HW heaters cover may help/and or you pilot light/ or even cleaning the contacts on the cirsuit board and other electrical connections. It all really depends on the specifics of your unit.
