Looks like one of our kids may have gotten that bad virus in her new (2 month old) Mac. Is it now a planter or is there any hope of restoring it, or having somebody restore it?
Thanks

Need more details, what is it doing or not doing? Booting or not?

Flashback malware removal tool

I opted to remove Java completely, so far haven't found any problems nor a need for it, none of the 5 Macs I deal with were infected.

You can take it in an Apple Store or an authorized Mac Service Center. Have you called Apple Tech support for advice yet?

^^^ What they said.

It's removable without re-installing or re-formatting.

Disable Java (not javascript) in your browsers. It's a plugin in Firefox and a preference setting in Safari. Run Software Update as Apple has issued updates to take care of the problem and remove the trojan if it is present.

Just allow the machine to perform the Apple Software Updates. A removal tool will automatically be run...

If the above doesn't work, just take it to the Apple store and they will take care of the problem.
Or call Apple Tech Support. Smart people work there.

Follow up: It wasn't a virus at all, but a friend's teenager had gotten into the machine without permission and somehow inflicted what looked like terminal damage. Daughter finally called Apple tech support and because this model is a Lion(?) it came with a built-in system restore feature. The Apple technician worked some kind of magic and 3 or 4 hours later, the Mac was back to factory specs. Whew!

Thanks for the follow up. Glad to hear it wasn't the "worm" though I haven't found one of my Mac friends that has really had it.
