Having stayed in both I have to say that Vogel is much easier to park your rig in especially the front section of the cg. The back section in the cove has a loop for turnaround to get in and out.
Unicoi doesn't have as much maneuvering room on it's full hookup section. The road is wedged up against a steep hillside with the sites opposite on a creek. The easier to park section is on top of said hill but only has w and e.

Vogel is on our list. Black Rock has a killer view and I could get my TT up there (as long as no one is coming down), but there is no way I could get through the campground and do the turnaround at the end of the road. I had to do a three point turn just with the TV. The CG host said several trannys died on that climb.
Talullah Gorge SP has a campground ran by Georgia Power. It has the basics and is walking distance to the gorge. It is close to 441 and can here some road noise, but not bad as you are 100 ft higher than the road.

I don't remember having any problems maneuvering in Unicoi last year when I was there - but then I tow a <20' trailer It was a nice park and my 11 year old nieces loved it!

Where did you park? The full h/u or the e/w only sites? The full h/u area doesn't have a lot of room to maneuver.

We were in the FHU and I don't remember it being that tight. There were a lot of decent-sized trailers there when I was there last year during GA Spring Break week.

Do you remember the number of the campsite? They have a couple that are not so tight on the ends, but by and large the majority can become difficult in the full h/u section. When we camped there three years ago, the 27 foot trailer and pickup was almost too much for proper parking. We had site #20.

Now I had to park the truck more sideways and at an angle just to get it off the road, but backing in to the site was not an issue and we didn't see any that jumped out at us that would be either. The very first one on the left as you enter would probably be the easiest one due to it's angle. Ours was more perpendicular to the road. WE did get close to the hill on the other side, but was far easier to do than it is at Lakewood at Myrtle Beach for sure.

Site #20 is oriented against the one-way traffic flow and was a bear to navigate with it's acute angle in the wrong direction. It was the only site left vacant and we could see why. First we had to get the guy who was on the shared driveway (each site shares a back-in driveway) to move his dually so we could start the turn. His TT was a 34 footer so we had to be careful there too because his unit was sticking out into the same shared driveway.
Now we know why the first two and last two fill up first. Unless you have a shorter TT or motorhome, it's going to be a tough park in the middle sites at Unicoi's Big Brook Spur for fhu. Wish they'd renovate it those sites to be an easier park. Either that or restrict the length of TTs or other units so they aren't sticking out into the common driveways.
Went to their webpage and found this announcement in case anyone is heading out there and hope to eat at the Lodge.
Quote: The lodge at Unicoi will close on 12/1/12 for renovations and re-open fall 2013. All other park facilities will remain available.
