Have any of you who have installed the Extend A Shower done so into walls without studs behind it? Did you just use wall anchors? Did it hold up?

Side question: how did you find the stud if you installed in studs?

Thanks.

There wasn't a stud behind either end of the old shower rod and they did not use anchors. I used the screws that came with it (did not come with anchors) as I was camping at the time. So far, so good but I do not have little ones using the curtain as a hand hold or anyone using the rod as a drying rack. I will add anchors if it lossens up. I love the extra space when showering and folded in when using the "rest" of the bathroom.

I installed one on our previous TT...one screw in the stud and the other just in the wall. It was pretty solid and a very good mod...gave much more shoulder room in the shower.

I installed one over a year ago....outside wall I hit a stud, inside wall I did not. So far so good it is rock solid and I don't imagine I will have any problems...I love the mod.

I isntalled ours almost 2 years ago and didn't hit a stud. So far so good and it makes a world of difference.

Thanks all. I am surprised to hear so many success stories without hitting a stud. I guess I will give it a go. Based on the success of others, I think I even have a work around if it doesn't work for me.

I couldn't get holes to line up exactly, so I got two stainless steel blank wall switch plates and put them between the wall and the mounting bracket of the extend a shower. I "peanut buttered" silicone caulking on back of plate before installing and so it acts like a cow trying to pull foot out of the mud. It all is part of a bigger surface to hold the bracket and bar.

One seriously great analogy (or whatever the proper literary description is for cows and mud).
