Closed in both directions 2 km east of Topley because of a sink hole. Temporary bridge installation in progress. Detour in effect for light traffic only via Howell's Rd by pilot car. Expect up to 30 minute delays. Estimated time of opening to heavy traffic Sun Apr 29 2:00 pm. Confidence level low. Next update at 9:00 am Sat Apr 28. Updated on Sat Apr 28 at 6:33 am.

I don't know if heavy means Class A's..one should probably call highways and ask. I'd post a number if I could find one.

For conditions..but maybe a recording only...1-800-550-4997

DriveBC is one of the best sources. The current notice at this point is
Quote:

Wash Out
Highway 16 Both directions - Closed in both directions 2 km east of Topley because of a sink hole. Repairs in progress. Detour in effect for light traffic only via Howell's Rd by pilot car. DriveBC also gives access to lots of webcams in the province, as well as warnings like this. It's one of the best highway information systems around (easily on the par with WSDOT and Tripcheck Oregon).

DriveBC also has a washout warning east of Prince George, with single lane traffic. Did they have some heavy rains recently?

We got washouts and mud slides down in the Kootenays as well. We got a ton of rain the last week or so, and then the warm weather made that huge snow pack we had, melt FAST. Within 20 minutes of here we had two major slides on two different Hwys and one will taked weeks to repair. There was a mud slide on Hwy 3 in the west Kootenays that washed 1/2 the road away, down the mountains side about 400 or 500 ft to the bottom. They will need a huge amount of rock to fill that ditch. They do have single lane traffic open on the 1/2 of Hwy 3 that is still there.
