Didn't want to hijack another thread, but someone posted it is legal to carry a loaded flare gun in Canada, and accross the US to Canada border. Could someone verify that please?
If so, can we carry one concealed?
Thanks.

A "Very" pistol or as more commonly called in recent times a Flare pistol is legal in Canada. Before I purchased mine I checked with Canadian Customs in person and they showed me on their computer the section that related to the Very Pistol. As far as using one for personal protection you would have to be within about 4 feet to even hit someone in the chest. The barrel on mine is only about 1 inch longer than the shell but I know one thing I would never want to be hit by one. I have crossed the border many times and have even had to endure the "full inspection" and flare pistol was not even questioned. I never carry mine loaded but the shells are keep right with it in the passenger seat pouch.

If you plan to skirt our firearms laws and use it as a defense against fellow humans forget it. It would be considered a prohibited weapon by our courts.
Unless you could show that you were in imminent danger and that your would-be attacker was not going to walk away after you asked him to. Anything can be used for self defense, just dont shoot the guy in the back when he is running away, then you will be up the creek without a paddle. Wildlife...thats a different ball game altogether.

Flare guns are legal to import into Canada but they may keep you waiting at the border for an hour until they decide its OK. I personally wouldnt have it loaded while crossing the border. What you do thereafter is your responsibility. Just make sure it doesnt go off in your pants while carrying it!!!!! That may be brighter than the Northern Lights!!!!

Yes you can have a Flare Gun as long as it is part of your boating package. No you cannot carry a "concealed", for whatever reason, I don't know why you would.
If you are that concerned about your safety best you stay in the US.

A Flare gun does not have to be part of a boating package. They can be used to signal for help in many different situations and I certainly would not want to have to carry my boat or boat package with me on a hike or when I am out exploring the back country.

I cannot figure out why people keep coming on here and ask about regulations regarding things like this.. All you seem to get here are opinions and not much real info on a subject like this..
All one has to do is contact....which ever way is easiest for you...the customs and immigration bureau of where ever your going and get the direct facts and legalities.. one 2 minute phone call... no guess work.
Your entering a foreign country...ask and obey their rules.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
