As my Mom and sister live in Santa Barbara we make the trip several times each year. We usually go down via CA 88 cut across to I5 in Stockton then CA 46 over to Paso Robles and US 101 south to Santa Barbara. Stops at Lockeford Sausage (best sausage on the planet) and some wine tasting in Paso Robles. Going home we often go south on US 101 to Ventura take CA 126 east and I5 south to CA 14 north to US 395 and north back to Reno. Stop in Fillmore on CA 126 for citrus. If snow is gone consider going thru Yosemite on CA 120 then CA 41 to CA 46 to Paso Robles. This one can easily take several days or weeks.

We've decided to take 395 all the way with several side trips along the way. Then when we head more for Santa Barbara we will be going thru Ojia. I think it's on a winding back road highway, number 33. If I remember right, as I placed the Calif. map back into the truck.
