THE SCENE OF THE CRIME - 2003 Trailite B+
ENGINE - CHEV. 5.7 L. / 40,000 MILES
M.O. - NEED FOR SHIFT KIT AND ADDED MILEAGE

So, I decided that I would bite the bullet and try a 'performance tuned' computer upgrade for my MH. My mechanic friend, had said that if we were going to tow a car we should install a 'shift kit' to protect transmissionsion from overheating and priced it at around $500. (Canadian).

The new computer as well as making adjustments to my fuel injection will also modify the shift points. So it is like getting a two for one deal for a hundred or so less!

I had it installed two days ago and have not been able to drive it much The manufacturer instructs that it needs to be driven 50 miles or so in order for the new computer to learn about it's new home and about the habits of the driver too of course. That being said, posted reviews on the net claim anywhere from 2 to 8 additional MPG. I figure that if it will provide me 2MPG the unit will be paid for this season.

While I haven't been able to test the unit extensively, I can report that the engine seems to be running better through the first two gears ( as though a restriction was removed from the intake system) and it is a little more responsive at highway speeds.

Oh yes, and the shifts, the issue that started this whole adventure, are more crisp and the shifts from first to second and second to third are accomplished without the engine seeming to work at it as much as it did.

Not expecting miracles but, you just never know . .. ... . .. .. .

Keep us posted on this topic on how your experiment works out. I have not had any problems with MPG or power in over 40,000 miles, but always willing to learn from the experience of others.
