I recently did the fluid and filter change on my 2006 Monaco Knight. It is equipped with the Allison MH3000. I bought my TES295 and filters directly from a Allison distributor and the change went flawless. My only question is this, I drained out all the fluid into a 5 gallon bucket so I know 20 quarts or less drained out. After installing the new filters and filling with the 19 quarts recommended on the Allison directions, I took the motorhome for a ride to heat up and re-check fluid level. The electronic shifter pad now says i'm low 3 quarts. I added 1 quarts because thats all I had left and then the shifter said low 2 quarts. I left it like this until I could get more fluid and then I reheated the engine and checked again. Now the shifter is saying low 3 again. I now have another gallon on hand but dont want to over fill the system without finding out the facts. I know my coach has a external trans cooler but could that add almost a gallon of capacity? I am leaving on a 2000 mile trip in a few weeks and want this squared away before I leave. Any input would be appreciated.

One other question, if I check the fluid with the dipstick, should the engine be running or off? Should the transmission be hot or cold?

TheThe only thing I can think of is a leak or you are not level.
The math worked as far as adding the first 3 quarts but to be low another 3 quarts does not add up
19 quarts is the right number for a 4 inch pan excluding any external hoses and coolers so a gallon extra may be needed.
Get us up on this because I will be doing the same in May

One big question: Do you have a manual?? If not you should get one or get one online.
There is one cold check that is done prior to start and running and that is to determine if you have enough fluid to continue to the other checks. Pull the dip stick and check the fluid it should be near the HOT/FULL Mark.
The manual check can be done either hot or cold engine running and for both there is a pocedure to follow and temperatures to check.
If you keep having problems call Allison

After the initial change, the pad said low 3 but I only added one. Now it says low 3 again. So at this point it is saying low 3 and I have installed 20 quarts, not 22.

Use the dipstick to confirm you have approximately the correct fluid level. Once you heat up the transmission fluid use the keypad check and believe the electronics. Several threads on this on IRV2.COM

For my MD3060 approximately 10 quarts remain in the Transmision and Converter after draining. Just keep that in mind. No way in my tranny to drain the converter. Just thought I would pass that on.

This exact same thing happened to me last year when I changed my Transyn. Added 19 quarts and after diving almost 300 miles, it read 3 qts low on the shift pad. Added three more qts and all was well. Checked the dip stick and it also read full. Very confusing as the manual specifically states that my 4" pan requires only 19 quarts, but I had to put in 22 to get a "full" reading.
I have since driven it over 1500 miles and it still reads full.

I can only assume that the torque converter, hoses, and other items won't retain all of their fluids when draining and will actually lose some...hence, the extra three quarts.

OK I understand I misunderstood the post so to answer the question Yes the cooler and extra hose could add a gallon.
