Has anyone driven US-50 coast to coast ? It's on my bucket list. Should be reminiscent of a historic Route 66 drive.

We've done the NV and Utah legs, west to east. That section really is empty, few towns or even gas stations.

If it's on your bucket list, do it. Life is short.

I don't think us-50 goes coast to coast. I thought only Us-20 did that.

US-50 goes from Ocean City, MD to San Francisco, CA. In some places it runs with the newer Interstate Highways. It goes through Annapolis and then Downtown Washington D.C. It goes through central West Virginia, Southern Ohio, Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois to Saint Louis. In Kansas it goes through Dodge City then on to Pueblo Colorado following the Arkansas River for a while on the way to Grand Junction. It runs with I-70 through Eastern and Central Utah.

That is as much of it as we have driven. Lots to see and do along the way. Checkout this website for a start.

Safe travels!

That's on my Bucket List, too! Can't happen until we retire then we will have to figure out whether to go west first or east....lots of time to figure it out!

We drove US-50 from our home in southern Indiana, just 2 miles off of 50, to Colorado before heading north to the Black Hills in July '02. The first day we stayed at Carlyle Lake in Carlyle,Ill. Very nice place. The next stop was at the State Park in Knob Noster, Mo, home of the B-2 flying wing Bomber. The third day we were at the Gunsmoke Campground in Dodge City,Ks. We went to the Boot Hill area the next day as we had our 4 year old grandson with us. The forth day took us to Wray,Co. and the Hith'n Post Campground witch is north of US-50 on US-385. You will find this part of the route fairly flat with the only hills as you come out of Cinci. and from Bedford to Loogootee,In. There are some sections that are interstate around the big cities.Of course you may run into some construction areas along the way. The small towns along the way are a joy to visit. Visit some off the route a little if you can. Have a safe trip.

Actually, I think 50 ends in Sacramento officially, you'd need to take I-80 from there to SF for a real 'coast-to-coast' run. I've done big chunks of it, used to live right off 50 in Sacto, and been on the eastern end of it many times, as OC MD is just about 50 miles south of us.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia page about US 50. Pretty interesting. Originally created in 1926.

Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
