Hello, I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question but not sure which one is. I did a search but only got 3 posts non of which answered my question. It is about the E-Zee pass system. I live in MA. 2 weeks ago we did our second trip to Virginia Beach. Many toll stops along the way. I read the E-Zee pass FAQ about how it works with a trailer. I need clarification on the isuue. I know that you can apply and put in the plate number of the trailer and it will count the # of axels as you go through the tollbooth. Then it said that in states other than MA we would have to go through a booth for both E-Zee pass and pay. Then the tollbooth person would recalculate for the # of axels. Does that mean that at the numerous tollbooths in NY VA MD and DE we would have to stop each time and recalculate. This seems to negate the E-Zee part. Does the first stop recalculate for all the other stops in that particular state?

Thank You,
Marianne

EZ Pass will recalculate it automatically when you go through and are towing. I've had mine for years and have never had a problem. They also work to the west! Through NY and to IL. Was the best thing I ever spent a few bucks on!

Why don't you contact the authority and ask that question, answer will probably be more accurate than a forum?

We have it and have never stopped at a booth anywhere it is accepted. Correct charges always show up on our email statement. Great tool.

We have it in NY. I have one on all my vehicles.. Don't really pay attention to it.. The camper or its plate is not registered with ezpass. We just go through without issues and charges will show up on email statement (as stated).. If any..

Great system..

Dan, have you looked into the "Thruway Special Discount Towing Plan" for 5'vers? I have their Motorhome Discount Plan, and only pay passenger car per axle rates for my Class A.

In WV I was told to go through a gate with a person at it, and would get a discount.dont have to stop just go slow.not sure what the charge is.so if any one is using the WV Turnpike use a lane with a attendent.

In Jersey and Delaware I know you just drive through the lane, but just a warning.. Some of the Delaware bridges have "software" problems and will consider a pickup pulling a TT as a commercial vehicle (charging you $30 instead of the correct price of $12). This has happened to us 3 times , and each time I needed to call Easypass and request a refund. It always takes about 5 weeks. (This has happened to us 3 times over a 3 year span. I can't believe the problem was never corrected!).

Taken from the Thruway Ezpass website

http://www.thruway.ny.gov/ezpass/towing.html

"Special Tags for Passenger Vehicles that Tow
How to Sign up for a Special Towing Tag"

"If you want to use a dedicated E-ZPass lane when towing a trailer, camper or boat you can now get a special tag. The tag is programmed for the tow vehicle and trailer combination. The tag must only be used with the vehicle towing combination. This eliminates the need to use a staffed lane which will reduce your travel time. You must first have established an E-ZPass account with the New York E-ZPass Customer Service Center. Just fill out the form below to request your special tag."

I have a Rhode Island EZ-pass and can only tell you how it has worked for me in New Hampshire and Maine. I register only the tow vehicle plate. I can use ANY lane that is marked for EZ-pass. The system ALWAYS figures out how many axles I have, if I am towing. It seems from other posts the rules are different in New York state. It may be a good idea to read the rules, in advance, for the states you plan to go through. The rules for NY were posted above, others may or may not be the same as New Hampshire and Maine.
