OK Paul Edit the title appropriately then! Your title adds to the dont go to Mexico Phycy which you are doing a good job in dispelling. Your new multi coloured decals get lots of looks up here on Van Isle.

Obviously my message went over a few people heads.(although not all of you) The purpose was to illustrate how the situation down there with respect to tourist safety gets distorted & overblown. I was not trolling, simply giving a lesson in bad journalism, we all know of cases where the whole story has not been told. Had this guy not been an obvious gangster, we all know how it would have been played in the press.

Everyone here knows I am a big supporter of Mexican tourism, sometimes a shock title with an explanation is the best way to make a point. It also illustrates that drugs are not something that is only associated with Mexico. My second point with this thread.

This story does also have a connection with the shoot out in January in the lobby of the fancy Wall Sheraton Hotel in Vancouver, something that generated an American warning against travel to Canada as we all know.

Wait a minute where did that warning go?

Lew, I qualified the title for you & others who did not get the purpose of it.

Well, I'm scratching Mexico and B.C. off my list.

Let this be a lesson to you Canuck drug dealers, come to the US to buy your drugs where it is safe, not to dangerous Mexico. (There isn't a smiley with tongue in cheek.)

Well I guess Canadian drug dealers are bit more stupid, you sure hear about more of them in Mexico than the US.

I shoudl point out that even using recreational drugs is a very dangerous practice in any other country. The jail you end up there could make jails at home look like 5 star hotels. in some countries it can mean the death penalty like Singapore. I remember in the mid 70's traveling overland through Iran. I saw an American guy busted with a false bottom suitcase entering Iran from Afghanistan. They hauled him off not looking very happy. At that time it was an automatic death penalty for drug smuggling. Not worth it.

I completely understood Paul's sarcasm at first read and don't know how anyone could have interpreted it any other way. I have made similar post when banner headlines indicated people are just randomly killed in Mexico and readers see the banner and take only a few words into their subconscious memory banks and come away only with the mind set of "Canadian (or American) killed in Mexico". Sarcasm is not intended to be a joke or to be funny - sarcasm can be very serious. This is not funny. It only points out how some people can read only some of what is presented and come away with a completely different idea of what happened. Can anyone remember "Laugh In" back in the 60s and how they would say "Marshall McLuhan, what're you doin?"? McLuhan taught at McGill (in Canada) and wrote about how the more communication devices we have the less we actually communicate - he was mostly speaking of radio and TV - but also newspapers and books. Now we have the internet and confusion abounds. McLuhan said the only way to truly communicate was sit face to face with someone while looking them in the eye and talking totally truthfully and honestly. It is unfortunate that some have missed the entire point of Paul's post here. Hey Paul, I got it. As you know I have posted similar items in recent months. It's a tough crowd out there.

I totally do not get Paul's sarcasm! We have had flame after flame about violence in Mexico which is affecting RV tourism to Mexico! I read Paul's title, and I had already read the information in BC media and I go ballistic!! I know Paul-and even given that , I do see Paul as a sarcastic kind of guy! He is a guy who wants to see gringos RV ing in the country he visits and loves! this is a public forum !! I stand by my responses!

Its OK Lew, its a sensitive subject for many of us, as you know. It is looking like he may have been hit by other Canadians.

To be quite frank this does not scare me one little bit. It demonstrates what I have always maintained, most murders in Mexico are targeted. Not like the random nut cases running around in Canada & the US shooting up colleges, etc that you see depicted every day on shows like 48 hours. I would rather be in a place where people are shooting at people they intend to kill for a specific reason, not just for fun. BTW I see they have just made an arrest in the case of the 2 RV'ers killed in Alberta last year.

Hey Snow River- can you tell me who was arrested for killing that RV couple? I am in Zihuatanejo, but have star choice (shaw direct now). I see Winnipeg and other Canadian news, but I haven't been home lately at news time, so missed it. Gracias.

It was the local guy- known to police who was a suspect almost from the get go. I guess they finally found evidence to charge. They still have not indicated that remains have been found.
I think it only made the print media here.
How many Gringos stay into May in Zhiuat?
