Okay, I talked to Ford Motor Co., then Blue Ox, and then Remco. The answer from ford was to follow the directions on page 255 of their 4th printing of the owners manual and she went through it step by step including removing the negative cable from the battery end. Blue Ox makes the base plates that will work with my Avlenta LX and they advised I should call Remco to see if they have any updated information regard the 2012 Focus Automatic. According to Remco it is ready to tow as is by following the owners manual. I am going to consider this the official answer as of today from the 3 best sources of information other than experienced owners. So off to the Ford dealer to get one that matches my Winnebago color.
I have towed a 2012 Focus SEL automatic for over 1500 miles with no problems. As has been noted, the Focus uses an entirely different automatic transmission than that used in the Fusion and Escape. Those two vehicles have now been deemed "not towable" by Ford due to the number of transmission failures which have ocurred.
There are several other threads on here regarding the 2012 Focus including this one: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25949597.cfm

Well we picked out a grey one, they don't make them in brown so it's as close as we could get to any of the colors on our Winnebago. Supposed to pick it up tomorrow, then to the Blue Ox dealer for base plates and wiring.
