We are heading across Minnesota on I-94 towards Fargo, ND on our way to Alaska. We are in the middle of rolling hills of farmland and it is getting late. There is a Camping sign, a sort of homegrown truck fuel station, rv camping, general store and parking lot for tractors and hay rakes and we stop.
The young fella at the counter wasn't sure about rv hookups - but we could boondock there for free. We were out of water, so he called the owner and found out the "RV hook-ups" were over in the mowed part of the field. Water and electric. Good.
I noticed holes dug in the field and figured prairie dogs. Little did I suspect what strange and weird noises our Brittany spaniel could make, glued to the front window adding to his nose art collection. DH couldn't figure it out, but I crawled up on the dash next to Boomer and pretty soon saw the little heads poking up out of the ground, then dipping back down. Repeat repeat repeat. Howl Howl Howl.
You do know that Brittanies have incredible stamina? He is so jazzed up. It is going to be an interesting night.

Nice post, Garrison! I have those in a cassette collection somewhere. Maybe I'll dig em out for the next road trip to Lake Wobegon.

beartoo - I think we are camping near Elizabeth, Mn about an hour east of Fargo, ND. The sign plastered over the diesel pump awning says "Northtown" - thats the name of the store and campground.
In actuality those little buggers might be groundhogs or other type of burrowing animal but I like to think they are prairie dogs. It just sounds more exotic. :-)

You were camped in the middle of a prairie dog town? Gads! Interesting, but I don't think I'd want that, especially with our dog.
As I recall, prairie dog towns are often infested with fleas (or something similar). I think it was Custer State Park where we were warned not to sit or kneel on the ground, as we might leave with something we'd have rather left behind.
Hey, enjoy your trip to Alaska! I'm envious!

Thanks Roadlife
I know "E" town it's close to where we live. Never knew of a campground around there. I'll have to go over and check it out.
Have a safe and fun trip up to Alaska.
