The tstat still seems sense the temperature because the burner fires only when it cools down, however as soon as i turn on the furnace the fan runs until i shut off the furnace by switching the switch from auto to off.

Every rig I have had has two switches. One is "Heat/Off/AC". The other is Auto/On. You want Heat and Auto, then it should cycle. Heat/On will run the ac fan continuously. That may be what you are hearing. Just make sure the one switch is on Heat, the other on Auto.

The system I have (Dometic) has a digital thermostat with fan, cool, and heat modes. If you set the fan mode to anything other than auto, it runs all the time.

I beleive on most systems, the fan runs 'a while' after the burners go out to cool down the ducts, etc. Same on my home system.
How patient have you been to see if the fans will turn off by themselves?
I believe, in a way, it does monitor the duct temperature when the burner is off to keep the system from overheating internally. Either that or it has a timed delay.

I believe the key is to make sure you have the fan on Auto so that it can cycle on/off properly. This is the way mine works on both heat and a/c.

It sounds like there might be a air flow problem for the furnace…
The duct system is not broadcasting the heat into the room fast enough causing the heated air in the distribution box to get hot enough for the limit switch to shut the gas down before the t-stat is satisfied (short cycling)… when the air in the distribution box cools the limit switch allows the burner to relight…
I believe you will find the auto switch on the t-stat operates the ac fan…

I had the same type of problem on a Dometic thermostat. I had to switch to fan mode. Then make sure that in fan mode the fan was set to auto rather than high or low. No more trouble. Hope this helps.

I have never had one that worked that way…
The FAN switch is wired as AUTO/ high cool/ low cool, or ON high cool/ low cool… and controls the AC fan, I have never had one that controls the furnace fan… the furnace fan is a single speed fan that operates the sail switch and circulates a predetermined volume of air…
I sounds like his furnace is short cycling and the time delay switch keeps the fan running between short cycles…
That to me would indicate a air circulation restriction either at the intake or in the hot air distribution…

Ok, so I tested it today again. I am not sure if the stat is actually sensing temp, however I can hear the high limit snapping. The fan and the ducts seem good, lots of air through them. I am going to replace the stat and the high limit and see if that solves the problem. By the way it's a duotherm stat and suburban furnace if that helps anyone.
