I am looking at older Class A motorhomes in the 1987-1992 range and see that there are different chassis. Is there any ones that I should avoid or are plagued with problems. Most of the ones that are in price range have the Ford 460 or Chevy 454, is there any things I should know about the older drivetrains? Thanks
we had an '85 chevy 454 on the P30 chassis for 14-years ('86-2000, winnebago chieftain) and as i recall we had very few problems with the chassis and drive train. whatever you decide on have it *thoroughly* inspected (chassis, engine, tranny, tires, roof, interior walls, ceiling, appliances, genny, etc) by qualified techs before spending one red cent.
good luck.

Both the Chevy 454 (P30/32) and the Ford 460 (F53) had a problem cracking exhaust manifolds. Have this area checked for sure. Allowing engine to idle (Cool Down)after a run will help equalize manifold and engine block temps. Fuel pumps located in gas tank, Both brands had some problems. Have fuel pressure checked. Lots of after market parts available for handling problems. The Chevy's 16,000+ chassis used an Auto Park system for the emergency brake, Can be very troublesome. There is lots of help on this forum, Use the seach function for in depth research.
