Just recently picked up the new Dodge 3500 dually and plan to add a 5th wheel "notched" tail gate for easier, and safer, connecting. The local truck outfitter/supplier recommends a model by "Handy, a division of Jadiem,LLC". It is metal, louvered, comes primed black and has a center latch. Unfortunately they don't have an actual one to look at and I hate ordering a product like that sight unseen. Cost for it painted the truck white would be around $600 as recall. Item # on the print out they gave me is # 10483.

Looking online, I have seen other versions/brands that are plastic/ABS. Anyone have any experience with this product? Thanks

I don't recall the brand of the fifth-wheel tailgates we have had, but they were all metal with the louvers with a center handle to lower the gate. Our newest one also has a lock which, for a while at least, we will probably not use since we don't have a cover over the bed anyway. You will probably get a bit of ribbing on here about getting the fifth-wheel tailgate, but I said when I bought the first one, it's not if you will hit your tailgate with the trailer, but when. Use of the fifth-wheel tailgate will probably stretch that first time out a bit. I wouldn't get one made out of plastic, I think the metal looks better and the paint job will probably last longer as well, we had painted plastic stuff on our old truck and our car and the paint seems to come off at the worst places. Except where I messed up on the fifth-wheel tailgate, there was no paint flaking.

I have a black plastic type lourvered tailgate that I purchased on Craigslist for $125. Strong and works as planned.

My tailgate does not travel. Simple solution for my simple mind.

I have had one for several years now, but I didn't pay near that much for it. It has been fine, but it got one edge bent when my son went with me to cut wood one day, and he stood on the outside edge of it and it got a little bend in it. Not bad, but you can see it. He is a big boy, over 200 pounds, it has never bent with me getting in and out of it. I wouldn't be without one.

Thanks for the comments so far. As with any product, there will be all kinds of quality and strength. I don't have contact with other RV'ers yet so don't have the opportunity to browse the campgrounds looking at things. I looked up the one in question and it says it is powder coated, not primed. Thought about just removing but I am likely to put stuff in the bed that even the notched style would help keep in.

I don't believe this one cost that much money. I did get it online and if you want more info give me a PM and I'll look it up.
It's a nice sturdy locking gate with much better welds than a lippert frame

Personal I dont like the look of them when not towing, I dont mind going back and opening and closing the tail gate makes me take a look at everything everytime I hookup or unhook, I guess they make things a bit easier but that sound like a lot of $$$ always thought they were less .

Just my opinion, I had one on my 2001 Dually and I was never pleased with it. My current Dually has the factory tailgate and I like it much better. Yes, I have to open it prior to hooking and unhooking, but It's no big deal and the truck looks so much better and no one can see what I'm hauling unless they walk right up to it. Pros and cons both ways, whatever you decide I hope you're happy with.

That what I did, until I found a Custom Flow on Craig’s List for $150. Also used a 2X6 some, but mostly nothing
