Lew, I guess we are on different sides when it comes to Slim. All I can say is, buyer beware.

On the positive side of this capitalist giant are the following fact:

He has lived in the same house for 40 years
Takes the subway to work (body guards in tow)
Employees 200,000 people in Mexico, Central and South America
Has helped 165,000 students through school
Has paid bail for 50,000 people in jail who could not afford legal counsel
Recently created the Carso Institute for Health
Has invested 4 billion dollars in education and health and is investing an additional 6 billion dollars this year in the Telmex Foundation

I wish Mexico had another 100 Slims. He has the vision to see that education is the key to success and he is willing to share his wealth.

(AT&T contributed a measly 148 million in 2010 as a comparison)

I'm sure we could uncover many negatives but we are all human. Based on the Mexican presidential debate last night, we won't have to worry about a socialist president. The guy, Lopez Obrador, made a fool out of himself.

....hah hah hah.

Cofeco is only window-dressing. Grupo Carso can squash it like a mosquito if it (Cofeco) gets too "left".

Monopolies rule the World; they are everywhere (under the guise of Oil Cartels; telecom conglomerates; mining conglomerates, etc...), and they won't go away any time soon, in fact they are actually becoming governments themselves!

Notwithstanding this, see GTLA9111's list of philanthropic offerings from his (Slim's) organization...
