We will be leaving in about 10 days going to AK & the friends that always travel up there with us said they thought they remembered seeing a new rv park in/near Red Deer AB when we were up there in 2010. I have done a search & can't find anything so thought I would check with those of you that live in that area & see if there is indeed a new rv park. We usually stay at Westerner CG. Thanks for your help.

The only two in the city are Westerner and Lions.
Red Deer Lions Municipal Campground
Open: May-Sept.30, 2007
Address: Box 5008 | Red Deer, AB | T4N 3T4
Telephone: 1 403 342-8183
This camp ground is on the Red Deer river about three blocks east at the first right across the 49st bridge (one way north).
4723 Riverside Dr. Having stayed at the Westerner campgound you know the intersection at 19th street and 50th avenue (Gaetz Avenue). To go to the Lions turn north on 50 Avenue. When you go down the South hill 50 Avenue becomes 49th Avenue. Continue north on 49th (right lane)until you cross the bride. Bear right onto Riverside Drive. Not sure of the distance, maybe 1/2 mile. Campground is on the right and well marked. In fact I think the entrance is the only right turn heading east.Decent place with trees, grass, the river and just down the hill from a large mall with a Safeway and a large retail plaza (across 50th from the mall. Should explain, when you leave the campground and turn north on 49th Avenue the avenue again becomes 50th Avenue at the top of the hill (malls intersedtion either right or left). The reason for this is the splitting of 50 Avenue to provide north and south bound oneway high density traffic capacity.
The following is a site for central Alberta campgrounds.

A link to a city map follows. Mouseover will give street I/D.

Better yet, Google maps or Mapquest.
Enjoy your stay in our city.

I knew I didn't remember a new campground & I SO appreciate your input. I knew someone from Red Deer could accurately answer the question. Thanks again the the answer & directions to Lions CG.

There was a new one opened about 2010 on highway 2 just north of REd Deer. In 2010 there was a huge sign on the west side of the highway advertizing it. I think it was the same exit as highway 11 to Sylvan Lake. We drove in to look at it for future reference but were not impressed. The Westerner is better. I have been up that way going to Edmonton a few times since then but do not recall seeing the sign.....not sure if the park is still there. It was NW of the junction of Highway 2 & 11 maybe less than a mile.

I agree with Vic. The Lions CG is the nicest. However, there are no reservations there, so you have to be in early or have someone go down and hold the spot if possible. Macktee

It is in the campground listing in the site address in my post. TeePee Village. Don't think this one would be satisfactory and it is clearly not in Red Deer.. The nearest "town" would be Blackfalds.
The Westerner campground would be south east of the intersection of WHY's 2 and 11 by about 4 miles. Travelling south on HWY 2 from the intersection exit at 32nd Street east (left) to 50th avenue, south (right) on 50th Avenue to 19th Street and east (left) on 19th Avenue to the Westerner Park exit (right) and then follow the directional signs to the campground. The "campground" is an asphalt design (Caesar's Palace). The Lions is far more asthetically pleasing!

Thanks again for the replies & RV There Yet is the one that our friends had heard about. It sounds like 1 of the others will be better though. We appreciate the heads up. Happy travels.

Drove from Calgary to Edmonton today and the "R V There Yet" campground is in the NW corner of Highway 2 and Highway 11A in RED DEER. Still open. The thing I didn't like was the gravel road to get to it and the dirt (mud in the rain today) sites. At the same intersection are signs to other local campgrounds just west of there.
I guess technically it is not in Red Deer but it's really close and right off Highway 2.

I would just like to make a comment reference to the Lions Club RV Park where I stayed at overnight last September....
Real nice clean place (with lots of landscaping and a trail walkpath) and great people too as let me park in the parking lot.... They opened the entry gate for me when it was 130am as I was sooooo dead tired upon a long day enjoying Edmonton by the time I made it to the Red Deer area.
It was my first time in the region and did not know my way around at all, as I was searching for a place to rest up and crossed paths with the campground signs marked and followed them to the location (thru downtown travelling northbound).
All the campground spaces were full, however they did let me use the shower facility which was nice as they only charged me $10 total for an overnighter with a hot shower upon a late arrival at that.
That place made me feel very welcomed.

I hope this doesn't mean you just barrel on up #2 and have never seen the dinosaur museum and badlands around Drumheller, which is just off #2. An absolute "must-see." We stayed at the municipal campground in Beiseker, which was perfect for that, then went on north through Red Deer.
