There is no way I would pull a 9300 GVWR trailer with a 5.3L plus it will have 1100 lbs of tongue weight when loaded. Not enough motor or payload for the 1500 IMO.

Another point in favour of the White Hawk 27DSRL is the more aerodyamic front profile. Makes more difference than a lot of people think.

If you start getting past 7000-8000 pounds dry, which realistically means over five digits when fully loaded, I'd go for a 3/4 ton, be it a Chevy 2500, a Ford F-250, or a Dodge 2500. There is a big difference between a half ton and a 3/4 ton when you hit the grades, the higher altitudes, or both.

I made this mistake myself... if I don't go for a motorhome, I'm going to be getting a 3/4 ton or 1 ton which is designed to handle heavier loads (and doesn't have to dance around CAFE numbers.)

If "doable" means staying within GMC's weight ratings, IMO it might be doable.

For your truck, how much trailer you can tow most likely will be limited by payload considerations.

To provide a meaningful answer to your question, we need three pieces of information:

1) What is the maximum allowable "combined weight of occupants and cargo" stated on the driver's door placard?

2) What is your best estimate of the actual weight of occupants and cargo, including 80# for a weight distribution hitch, when loaded for camping?

3) What is your best estimate of weight of cargo, including any fresh water or waste water in the tanks when underway, to be carried by the trailer?

Given the above information we will be better prepared to provide advice.

The placard to which I was referring is shown on this web page. (Your label might have a different format.)

The specific information is contained in the statement which reads:

"The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed XXX kg or YYYY lbs."

The YYYY value is the number we need.

Ya gotta use 'official' numbers. Your truck (or the one you're looking at) has CVWR (total weight of truck, trailer, beer, dog, kids, etc).
That number cannot be exceeded; especially in a country with so many lawyers.
Do the math. Pick the right combo. Enjoy life on the road.
I saw a TT pushing thirty feet at an RV show last month and it was proudly labeled " half ton towable ". A check on the little silver sticker on the left front corner showed a gross weight of 9350lb.

Not my half ton!

What was the dry weight? some trailers have a high CCC. so it may very well have been 1/2 ton towable.....a properly equipped 1/2 ton. for instance my TT has a GVWR of 11,200lbs with a CCC of 4100lbs, (7100lbs dry).

I recommend you keep the trailer GVWR inside the truck tow rating.
