Here's another question concerning dually swingout brackets.

Previously, we asked the question regarding spacing, but as we look at ours, we have noticed that our swingout brackets appear to be Atwood swingouts on our Happijac jacks. They were installed by the dealer and to make them fit, they had to drill out a hole a bit. DH swears that the jack appears to be bowed.

Can a different dually swingout bracket be matched on a different type of jack? Does this need to be addressed by the dealer? They never told us they couldn't match them. Would it be helpful to see a picture?
Thank you.

As long as the bracket holds the jack to the camper effectively and swings in and out, it doesn't matter what the brand name is on it.

If you have Happijac jacks then they should of used Happijac dually swingout brackets. Thats not saying that you couldn't make another brand work, because apparently they did. Is it the right and correct way......I would say no.

What I read as potentially the bad news, I thought the answer to your previous post was that the Atwoods had the biggest swing for your too tight jack problem. If you already have that, you appear to need bushings for the jacks to push them farther out.

I don't see a problem with using Atwood dually swingouts with HJ jacks, even if they had to drill out a hole a bit. That in itself isn't going to cause the jacks to bow. It's just a hinge, after all.

There are alignment considerations though, and there is enough play in all the mounting holes that you could end up with the jacks splayed out (or in) at the bottom if you weren't paying attention when you tightened everything up. It may be that all that's needed is to loosen all the bolts up while the camper is sitting int he bed of the truck, straighten the jacks, and then tighten it all back up again.

A picture would be great if you could post one.

There is no problem with using the atwood swingout brackets. But that being said using the atwood brackets actually does not give you the same amount of clearance because of the design of the Happi-Jacs. The atwoods have a mounting bracket welded onto the tube extending the jack out where as the Happi-Jac tube bolts directly to the bracket there by moving the jack in the width of the tube on both sides so you loose clearance because of that. If you do an image search on the brackets you will see what I mean. Personally I prefer the way the Happi-Jac brackets work over the other two manufacturers and I have used all three.

I had to drill new holes in my Atwood swing-out brackets to fit Atwood jacks...

It was no big deal. After all, it's just a simple hinge fabricated from mild steel. There's nothing special about any of the jacks or swingout brackets. You're not going to appreciably weaken them by drilling out a hole, or drilling an extra hole. If they're rated for 2500lbs each, you might've reduced the capacity to 2499lbs...

If the jack is attached solidly, then don't worry about it.

Tricia, not worry? Now that's funny! I know she is still thinking about leaning jacks and in sufficient clearance of the jacks with the truck. I think I would want to leave the truck & camper at the dealer for a couple of days to get everything ironed out once and for all. I know there has already been a lot of anxiety burned to date.
