Typically signs stating 'No Trucks', 'No Trucks Left Lane', 'Speed Limit For Trucks' etc. also apply to vehicles that are towing.....unless otherwise posted.

I follow the 'truck' signs.

My understanding is that its ok as long as there are two people in the vehicle. I did it going through Charlotte, NC. And no one paid any attention. I just made sure I was going with traffic. If you were going too slow who knows what might happen.

If the speed limit is 70 or 65 and the trailer towing limit is 55 as it is in California the answer would have to be no. You would be breaking the trailer towing speed limit to try and keep up with the traffic in the express lane.

I know some states don't have a trailer towing speed limit. So you would need to check the state laws to see if it's OK to tow in the express lanes.

Every state is different on this kind of thing so telling the OP whats what in Ca. or anyplace else isn't going to help him.

Knowing how the "gotcha" Chgo PD operate, I would avoid the left lane.

Every time we've gone through Chicago the standard lanes were going about 11mph & express lanes about 17mph. Probably doesn't matter what lane you are in.

LMAO! We flew into Chicago (Midway), on a Monday afternoon planning on driving our rental car up top Dorr County Wisconsin to visit friends. Dollar (aka dumb a** rent a car), didn't have any cars available much less ours which was reserved for 3:00. By the time we got out of Midway it was 5:00 and you can imagine what the highway north looked like. A couple of hours later we crawled past O'Hare. Grew up in southern California and had never seen a more fouled up highway system in my life! Kept wondering which of the rusted out bridges were going to collapse on us as we inched under. Between your highways, da Bears & Cubs you folks have my deepest sympathies.
