We have decided to head down to Va Beach after Williamsburg. Can anyone tell me if we would need reservations at First Landing if we were going from Sunday to Thursday? Also, can you tell me what sites are best? Like a quiet spot.
You might be okay without reservations but in our state parks I never take the chance. It also depends on the size of your rig. In Virginia you can't reserve a specific site but at First Landing you reserve a site that accomadates your rig and they are color coded. We reserved a 50 feet site but riding around the campground there were several 30 feet sites that would have fit us. We arrived unfortunately late on a Friday evening so had to take what was available to us, but there may be several good choices for you coming in on a Sunday. There were some sites that were just across from the bay. Lovely uncrowded beach but on the bay not the ocean. You are within close driving distance to the beach area and if you have an opportunity visit Fort Story, within the grounds there are 2 Cape Henry lighthouses, one old and one new. You can climb the old one but you're inside, where the light would have been. Also there is a beach there and it's where the ocean and the bay come together. Beautiful.
Hi, We were there 2 weeks ago. It was our second visit. I love that park. Last year we reserved a 30ft site. I misunderstood the info and thought with a 21ft trailer I was limited to that size. We saw many campers smaller than ours on the large 50 ft sites.This year I reserved a 50ft site. We got there at about 11:00 on Sunday morning so there were quite a few sites to pick from. We drove through and ended up with the site I wanted!!! G39. We had a view of the ocean from both the site and the camper. We also had a direct sunset view. When walking down the wooden boardway to the beach it could be seen nestled in the dunes. Have fun.
As of now, there are about 24 sites available when we would be there. thinking maybe we should make a reservation. Their site says check-in is 4:00PM. Several people said get there early to get a good site. Are you allowed to check in early?
