I am considering upgrading my Magnatek 7355 converter to one with a smart charge feature. I am looking at INTELI-POWER 9200 SERIES CONVERTER/CHARGER - 60 AMPS here
Is 60 amp adequate? I have been running 2-12 volt AGM series 27 for some time now, am happy enough with the batteries but they get pretty hot when sitting on shore power for extended periods of time with low usage.
My biggest concern is overcharging and incorrectly charging AGM batteries.
Would love to hear from anyone with experience at this.

The 7355 is a good reliable converter with a single stage voltage of 13.8. Some AGMs have that voltage as their spec for floating, so the 7355 should be ideal.

If the batteries are getting hot in your climate and their location, IMO keep the 7355 but just disconnect the batteries. Connect them once in a while to bring their charge back up to full and disconect again. Do connect for travelling so the breakaway brakes will work (required by law)

Or just get a simple trickle/maintainer charger that does a lower voltage like 13.2, so the batteries won't get so hot there and connect the batteries to that, leaving them disconnected from the rig except when travelling.

Or maybe they need a fan in their compartment.

Sounds like you really want a temperture compensated float charger, not a new converter.

This might be the right answer, not sure. I have a charger that is billed as a "smart charger" that I use part of the time. Problem is too many toys maybe and not enough time to use them all, so they sit and the batteries die. Boat, Ranger, 5ver etc. Sometimes the 5ver sits for 3 or 4 months and I leave it plugged into shore power. That is where my concerns of the constant 13.8 volts going into my batteries comes in. I know the AGM batteries do not recommend charging in that manner.

PD9260 will be far better than the MT7355. Go for it.

Could you post the exact brand and model of your AGMs? We could check their spec charging requirements.

My basic thought is that floating at 13.8 for long periods should be good for them and they should not overheat. A smart converter would float them at 13.2 but is that any better? need the specs.

There is a temperature compensated converter that would replace the 7355 if you insist, but I doubt you would be any better off in real life.

the 7355 is not the crappy 6300 type. He is on shore power with AGMs of unknown spec. What good would 14.4v do him? 13.2 maybe.

What are the charging specs? I think the PD will be closer.

13.8 is bottom of the charging range and top of the float range.
I have run Optima and they will far and away prefer the higher 14.4 charging and lower 13.2 float.
