How is the road conditions on I-10 between Mobile, Alabama and Houston, Texas? The last time I used I-10 the condition was bad.

It's a little rough between Baton Rouge and Lake Charles but, I don't think, so bad that it should be avoided. Of course, there's the never-ending road construction to deal with.

You may want to consider taking I-12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge and then picking up I-10.

Like somebody else said be sure to take I12 which bypasses I10 thru New Orleans (that section of I10 will beat you to death but you do go by the Superdome and overpass where all those people were marooned during the hurricane). The I10/I12 combination is much smoother than it was a few years ago.

We just came through there a couple weeks ago, and I-10 is just plain LOUSY......at least in parts. We had to slow down several times because the bouncing caused cabinets to open and contents to spill out. I would like to avoid it completely if I could find a decent alternate route, and may just do that the next trip down.

Just be prepared to reorganize your pantry when you stop and you will be fine.

There is construction on I-12 east of Baton Rouge LA and in the Beaumont TX area on I-10. Except for a secton between Lafayette La and the Atchafalaya Basin bridge the road is good. Avoid Baton Rouge during the rush hours.
