This thing is going to be put in a rural clinica exam room and will hopefully maximize the amount of light for the watt. Going to place it on the ceiling. If Jerry brings the sine wave inverter I don't care if it would be AC or DC. But common sense tells me a DC unit needs no interface between it and the batteries.

Thank You

Most of the rope lights I have seen are 120 Volts and can be hooked together in series. I have 4 connected together to encircle our 32' 5er.

Most of the LED rope lights I have seen have been no brighter than say one or two 7W incandescent nightlight bulbs.

Since this is to be used in a "rural clinic" personally I would suggest skipping the LED thing altogether. You REALLY need much better light.

Something like a 85W CFL which is equivalent to 420W worth of incandescent lights.

85W CFL

Couple it with a reflector like THIS

and you will provide plenty of light to see even the finest of fine print ever printed.

Hi Mex,

This might be what you are looking for?

12 meter reel of leds

There are 60 per meter and each one is 4.1 lumens, so the total light would be about 2900 lumens. The entire 12 meters would draw about 5 amps.

Is this just background light or examination grade light? eBay has several vendors selling 10W+ LED lights on reflectors, and the (12V) lights we have on our news trucks are blindingly bright. Want me to look and make & models?

120v 148 foot

120 Volt LED Rope Lights
The most common way to operate 120V LED rope lights is to use the rectifier packaged with the spool.
As an example, 1000Bulbs.com stock code SIV-LEDSWW is packaged with a 1.6 Amp rectifier. It is rated at
120 volts and 0.76 watts per foot.
1.6A x 120V = 253 ft. Max Run 0.76W
To increase maximum run, rectifiers of higher amperage can be used, including SIV-F118 (8.0 Amps), which
increases maximum run up to 1,263 ft.

Good questions all. If la medica doesn't have to switch on a huge power draining lamp to fetch a swab, or a tongue depressor the LED's can be left on for hours. When they need a more intense lamp I purchased a 22 watt 6.5K LED reflector lamp and it is fitted to a floor standing gooseneck lamp. It is at the head of the examining table and has a couple of sand bags holding down the base. If it should fall a fifty dollar lamp will be toast. I wired the battery through a Dick & Jane knife switch, to power the inverter which will I hope come on and power the rope light. The exam lamp has a spring loaded timer with a glob of JB Weld stopping the knob at 4 hours. The light from the lamp is quite concentrated. The house power is indeed powering an 85 watt spiral lamp and with white walls, the light is almost blinding anywhere in the room. There is a TelCel tower a mile away and there are a couple of cellular desk type telephones to keep powered up as well. That has to be an extension cord type reconnect. The nurse would be talking to the doctors at the 2nd class hospital a lot. There are a lot of scorpion stings among young toddlers and things can get real dicey real quick. If anyone has an old Magnatek 75-2 ferroresonant charger or better yet a 55 amp Magnatek charger laying around unused, it can go to work. This is a sister clinic to the one that we got a propane refrigerator for several years ago. It holds temperature sensitive anti venins and serums.

SCVeff, any info is greatly appreciated. I have one single shot to get this stuff down to be relayed but it has to get to Colorado the state by the 18th.

Thank you!

I seen some of these in action last week under the top cabinets & they were bright. Had a variable remote adjuster to dim or bright & was a kind of blue looking light they put off.

What I seen was told was in a 16' roll & with the transformer, remote & all was around $200. Sounds kind of high, but if it does the job I guess its worth it.
Lowes, is where they were bought from.
