The issue is tires that sit in the sun and don't move regularly. When you drive your car (or tow your trailer) the rubber flexes and keeps the protective chemicals active (obviously I am not a tire engineer so I don't know the terminology). When a tire sits the suns UV rays "dry out" the outer surface, reducing the life span - how much? Who knows.
As mentioned, our slides shade the fiver tires, but I do put covers on the truck when it sits for three months in AZ.

If your in the market for covers you might look at Covercraft TireSavers. They come with a spring-steel ring design which makes putting them on a lot easier than the old ones w/ the bungee cords. Covercraft TireSavers

You can also get them at WalMart, cheaper & no shipping.
Wal-Mart is never cheaper when you consider how much of a taxpayer subsidy they get for their stores and not paying workers a living wage or providing most of them with medical coverage and putting local business owners out of business who actually spend their income in the community instead of sending the money back to Bentonville.
I've been carrying my tire covers around for several years now without ever having used them. After reading these comments it's probably time to retire them to my garage. Thanks all.

I have no idea what WM pays their employees, but I'm pretty sure those that do choose to work there (and at lest have a job) spend their money locally and do not send it to Bentonville......
I guess elkhornsun doesn't like WM.....I personally love to use them at home to save a few bucks and especially when out in the RV.....one stop shopping, I know pretty much where everything is, I can often get fuel there, I can have all my prescriptions filled at any WM, get our groceries there, have our glasses repaired, grab a quick bite to eat, etc., etc.

Not using your TV's Tires is the worst thing there is for them. Well, you just met your first RV'er who covers his RV's tires every day after traveling.
We always arrive before dark, so I cover the tires, Period. We have been RV'ers for a little over 45+ years now. And we have never had a "Flat Tire" or a "Blow-Out" or have ever "Broken-Down".
Covering your tires is for sure a lot better for your tires than not covering them. FYI, if you check, I think you will find almost any size Good Quality Tire Covers at Amazon.com, are about the cheapest, and most of the time, the very same Brand you will buy at Camping World or other RV Places.
And usually they have Free Shipping. Just makes sure of your tire size when you order. I always go up one ot two sizes larger than our tires, as it makes it much easier to put the Tire Cover On/Off.
In the past 45+ years as RV'ers, we have also never had any crack, or any tire seperations in any of our tires.
Take Good Care of yoour Tires, and your Tires will take good care of you.

.... and my pickup truck has 9 year old tires on it: Tires never covered, truck never covered (always out in the CA sun), truck not run often enough to mix up the chemicals in the rubber ... and narry a sidewall crack anywhere ... but the paint on the hood is beginning to blister off.
IMHO, the jury is still out on covering of RV tires. I do now use 303 monthly on the RV tires though, but shouldn't have to even do that based on my pickup tires' example. BTW, why doesn't one have to cover all their vehicles' tires if they should cover their RV's tires?
Why some RV tires crack while other vehicle tires don't is a complete mystery. I have a theory though - I think it may have to do with the heat from the heavy flexing of RV tire sidewalls when under way - due to the extreme weight of an RV as compared to most other vehicles. Covering of tires cannot help with this but running at maximum tire pressures, even when not required for weight reasons, can.

So, based on your self proclaimed success story, and given that most folks have to change out their tires anywhere from 7 to 10 years, I would be willing to bet that you get WAY more than 10 years of life. I would be willing to bet that you get AT LEAST 15 years of life out of your tires, AT LEAST!!! Am I right? Did I win that bet???
Today is my personal best for most consecutive days alive.
