I am new here. My parents bought a new RV and gave me there old one. It is a 86 sportscoach pathfinder 28'. It is in pretty great shape, it just needed exhaust work and the roof resealed. which brings me to this, I need to reseal the roof, but im not sure what to use because I do not know what type of roof it has. The roof has been previosly sealed with mobile home sealant(obviously not made for RV's) and is now all cracked. I know I have a leak around a vent to seal, but also would like to seal the entire roof to be safe. Does anyone have an idea of what type of roof I may have, or how to go about this? Thanks for the help in advance!

You probably have ( had) a rubber roof, but who knows what the coating was.... Be careful with roof coatings, petroleum based coatings can destroy the rubber roof.
Alaska is next! Still trying to fit the pontoons to the RV so We can get to Hawaii!

What would your suggestion be? Should i attempt to strip the entire roof down as much as possible and start from scratch? the only place I know it leaks for now is around the vent over kitchen, water puddles there then it leaks. I could seal that then redo the entire roof this fall. The roof itself I would say has been hacked to a point, aluminum roofing tape down the edges, whatever gray mobile home roof coating, caulking around the vents, etc... The entire interior is newer including the interior cealing panels, which I beleave there was plywood in the cieling he replaced, he cannot remember now so i believe the roof is worth repairing if it needed full replacement.

I used to own an 84 Sportscoach Pathfinder 30 footer and it had an aluminum roof.

Well I guess im hoping it is an aluminum roof. Im wanting to catch an RV dealer in my travels this week and grab some eternabond or proflex, but I cant get to the rv until this weekend to actually check it out, I prob should remove a roof vent and try to determine what I have for a roof. Thanks for the help.

Check local roofing outlets as well. I get my eternabond from one that is 15 minutes away from me. Beats the heck out of driving 90 minutes to the rv store. Also if you do have a rubber roof look for Liquid Roof to do the repair work. I just bought a 4 gallon bucket and am waiting on the weather to cooperate so I can get the rest of my prep work done for the roof so it can be applied.

I had a 1985 Coachman Pathfinder, It had a aluminium Roof.

Im hoping for nice weather saturday so I can get up there and really check it out, work keeps me to busy during the week, thankfully I get by the RV dealer almost daily for work (Truck Driver). I appreciate the help from everyone, I deff like this site and plan on spending more time here!

I have a Sportcoach Crosscountry and it has an all aluminum roof, I think you will find yours has one too. If thats the case, unless its been damaged, all you need is to seal around the edges- vent pipes- and front and rear caps.

Good to hear! I am going to pull all the old caulking and reseal it and hopefully be good to go! looked aluminum to me when I got up there the other day!
