I think that if you shorten up a C-60 to take a pickup bed, it is probably going to ride like a buckin bronco.
I have thought about going with a medium duty in the past. Just a thought that you might want to look into. Get a medium duty truck with a service box and load what ever you want.
Even if it is a little long, you will have enough weight capacity on the rear to handle most any T/C. Just think of all the storage capacity you would have.
As for the DOT, no problem, just stencil "NOT FOR HIRE" along the sides of the truck. However, make sure that it is non-dot complaint. Usually just hydraulic brakes works that out, unless you have a commercial driver's license.

the ride of the C-60 is consideration i have thought on and rear spring change out was planned...
i will be looking for one that has 24,000 on down gvw and hyd brakes to be under dot requirements as far as that part..
the service body idea would help with storage for extra tanks and such.. i know there is a gentleman on here with a late model ford f-550 i believe with service body..

When I was talking to the DW about this type of project, she thought that a crew cab would be better. Back when I had my own truck fleet, the absolute best tractors were IHC. You can say all you want about corn-binders, but I paid less on IH repairs as I did with Freight-shaker and peter-car specific repairs.
