Mine has a frost/freeze sensor stuck in the evaporator coil. I found it had fallen out and stuck it back in and all is cool.

It should be visible by pulling the inside trim/cover and looking at the inlet side of the evaporator coil.

I have had the exact same thing happen too!!!!
I would check up in the return, I have had the last two trailers freeze up on me. Both because of the A/C units very poorly installed. There was cold air leaking into the attic and also back in the the warm air return which caused it to loose air flow through the vents. I always had to run with the quick cool open all the time when it was anywhere near 100 otherwise it would freeze up. Since I have replaced my original intake grill with a genesis return air grill and fix everything up so there were no leaks and it is 100% better. I have way more flow to the vents and I have only used the quick cool feature for what it was meant for, to cool down the living area quick and then closed it up. This past weekend we were in 114+ in the with no shade and it was perfect, set at 71-72 and very humid compared to what it has been normally. Considering what I have read on here and we have a HE Brisk Air 15000 BTU AC unit that works great for our 39 foot fifth wheel.

Hope this helps you.

anything that can be charged, can be re-charged, but from 30 yrs in appliances, there are many other problems to cause this and the sealed system has to have sustained some damage for there to be a leak. Granted road vibration 'could' cause this, but be sure to check for the other problems first. Opening a sealed system is the last stage fix. hth

Yes you can, the tech will probably have to add a service port. Had to have my last TT serviced after 8 years as it was not blowing very cold air. Never found a leak and it worked fine after re-servicing. They don't hold much freon and over service can be as bad as under service.

Mine was freezing up last summer when we got summer rains with high humidity and then I started running fan in the on position vs the auto position. Yours could be low on freon but i am sure someone here could tell you what freon these units use. If it is just a little low you will think it is still cooling good but it will cause it to freeze up.

it blows cold air when its blowing, then it stops blowing which is when I assume it froze up.

If you have to charge it, it will only leak out again and start to become a money pit. Freon does not dissapear without a leak so by charging it you are only putting a bandaid on it, and by federal law you can only add freon twice to a system that knowingly has a leak . Even though many do not follow this. I have been a a/c tech for 13 years and watch so many people waste money on leaks

Before you go thinking it is low on refrigerant (yes, it is possible, but doubtful), look at the frosted coil. If the coil looks like frost (white) then it is an airflow problem. If it looks like hard clear ice then it could be anything from a plugged drain to a low system. If the coil is frosted part way up then it is a low system or the condenser coil (the one on top outside) could possibly be partially plugged and it will give some of the same icing issues that a low system would. Most trouble calls with any A/C or refrigeration issues are either electrical or air flow.
On mine I must leave the louvers for the "quick cool" partially open or mine will freeze up too.

to thicken the plot, last summer in charleston I noticed a water drip in the basement area. I tore the shower apart only to find it wasnt leaking. After much investigation it was coming down the inside of the outer wall. I figured it would be due to condensation on the aluminum frame from the heat outside and the air running on high inside. we have also always noticed water forming on the vents in the ceiling when the ac is running. does this add anything to the diagnosis?

Any AC system can be recharged, they do come out of the factory without service valves and would have to be installed. If you have to have this done don't let the tech leave you with "tap a line" service valves, they will leak, they shoulds be used only to recover the freon that's left in the AC unit.
