I echo the sentiment on the axle and tire capacity. Also, get or add LED taillights, they are more reliable and brighter.
I have a 5x8 open deck trailer with a wood bed and 12" rims. I really prefer the wood bed to the mesh steel beds because they hold up better to abusive and point loads. Expanded mesh will stretch where you have the bike wheels and kickstand. You can also nail or screw down blocks to secure your cargo. I've had mine parked out in the sun and rain for 15 years and the wood bed is in great shape, although the paint is about shot.

I'd get an enclosed trailer if I was going to do it again, except for the fact that open trailers under 2000 lbs don't require a title or license plate here in Oregon so I don't have any expense to keeping my open trailer around.
