If you have the uplift switches in your 6.4 PSD Ford and want to have a high idle switch here are the instructions:
Just pop off the plastic cover under the steering wheel, find the green/yellow wire in the large bundle of wires just above the Ebrake (they are bundled together and all have a black heat shrink looking end on them) then right above that bundle you'll see another group of 4 wires, I forgot the colors, but there is a solid brown one in that group (the brown one is for upfitter switch #4). Just make a jumper wire about 3 or 4 inches long and connect the green/yellow to the brown wire. It works! The E-brake has to be set and the transmission in PARK. Mine revs up to about 1200 RPM. If you touch the brake pedal, it will cancell it out.
I did it and I know nothing mechanical. It is suggested to turn on high idle if you idle for more than 10 minutes to maintain the proper temperature
interesting, did you find these instructions somewhere? Can you post the source? In my 06 CTD the dealer did this for me by programing the computer. I could then use the cruise control to adjust the RPM. Basically, turn on cruise and idle up by selecting the accel. This is how it's done in class 8 highway tractors.
Here is the SVE Bulletin that covers this subject from Ford. I hooked up both the 1200 RPM idle for PTO operation and the 900 RPM idle for battery charging back in 2007. Took all of 30 minutes to complete, nice on a cold day. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=........162.pdf&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13358807067613
Also here are a few pictures looking up under the dash at the wires needed. A good light source is handy to find the wires that are bundled up.
