At the dealership they only talked to me about the trucks towing weight and made no mention of GVWR. We will defiantly be scaling back and I will keep all of this in mind.

Good Day:
Guy what are you doing? I had a F 150 ford with the same motor, pulled a 19 foot trailer, had trouble pulling up hills and passes here in the west. Used low gear and poor gas milage. Sorry I ever bought the pu., not the tt. Look closely before you do any thing else. You asked, people might disagree with me, and you see other post, it's up to you. Good Luck.

And all seems fine as I go on past the loaded semi or just hang in there with the other RVs. A few turbo diesels go past big whoop. I have never understood the faster is safer argument.

Remember...the majority of the RV sales people work on commission so some of them may or may not tell you the truth about things...they want to make that sale no matter what...

Smart move. One more thing; when you look at trailers, use the GVWR as your real-world guide, not the fictional "dry weight".

Yes....in the interest of safety go with a Hensley or Propride Hitch.

Noooooooo.....really???? The dealership only spoke of tow rating? That's unusual ........NOT !!!
Quazi02, just being sarcastic because MOST dealership dumbies ONLY know the tow rating and this forum is littered with poor souls who put all their faith in the same saleperson's advice to end up here months later wondering why they have too much trailer for their truck. Good for you for doing homework first.
On a side note, if you can make the numbers work I agree with Road Ruler, the Hensley Arrow or ProPride are the finest hitches out there and in a marginal setup such as what you're looking at could make a lot of difference.
Good luck.

Unless the trailer has a very low CCC I would add 1300lbs to the dry weight. this will get you a pretty accurate ready to travel weight. some trailers have a very high CCC (mine has a 4100LB CCC).

My trailer empty weight was about #300 more than yours listed but when ready to camp I am in the 8K-9K range. Depending on the under bunk storage it is easily exceeded 1K tongue coupled with the full propane tanks, battery and heavy WD hitch all right on your bumper. In the beginning when I didn't pay attention to where I put things I had the front of my Excursion pointed up to the point that the headlights wouldn't shine on the road in front of me. After adjusting the WD and taking the heavy stuff and putting it in the rear it is all level. So for loading you would have to be really, really and really careful.
For performance that is subjective. If you don't mind being patient to merge traffic, don't mind being slow up the grades and anticipate any drastic changes in traffic from what Skip always said the 5.4L can handle it but it will be singing (rpm's) while doing it. If you want to pull out efffortlessly or merge with authority or lead the pack going uphill you might want a little more hp/tq.
