My trailer has perches welded from factory on top and bottom, should make the task fairly easy.

Oh geez, you have it easy. A floor jack and some jack stand should be a you need to make the switch.

Yep you have it easy. I welded new perches on my axles and built a stool for the height distance from the bottom step. I gained about 6 - 6.5 inches of clearance doing this. I use some 4x4's that I stack cribbed (Two on the ground facing north south and then one on top facing east west.)under the stabilizer jacks.

I have not noticed any sway issues.

Is there a tendency for the trailer to sway more when you lift it?
