I am looking to find a campground with at least 15A (don't need water or sewer) within about a 4 hour drive from the San Diego area.

We have 16 month old twins and are looking for somewhere that would be fun for them. This means bike paths where we can pull a bike trailer, swimming pool (if warm enough), forest areas with a lot of trees.

Any suggestions?

Not into Mexico, but other than that we don't care. The 4 hour or so limit is just because that is all our kids can take in the car.

OK, are you tenting it, do you want paved bike paths, and being in the forest to camp or within driving distance? You may want to think Bishop/ Owens Valley area with lots of lakes, streams, high desert or forest, small rv parks, but the bike path thing, other than dirt trails may be a stretch. It would be worth the trip, but may be a little more than 4 hrs. Or somewhere up around Big Bear/ Lake Arrowhead by San Bernardino.

Do a Google search on Serrano campground in Big Bear area (Fawnskin)we have stayed here lots.

Really nice and clean with a loop of full hookups. There is a nice paved bike path that runs along the lake.

Santee Lakes Regional Park would be great for you! Here's a link:

Try Lake Skinner County Park near Temecula. We spent five days there a month ago. No swimming pool but large play area (equipment) for kids and lots of trails for bikes. There is also the lake of course. You can rent boats out.

Another vote for Santee Lakes and Lake Skinner. Both great places. There are also a few Thousand Trails Campgrounds in the area that now allow public. Pio Pico in Jamul, Wilderness Lakes in Murrieta, and Soladad Canyon north of LA. I believe their nightly rates are competitive. You actually have a wide range of choices within a 4 hour window of San Diego. You could make it all the way up to Santa Barbara if you wanted to. Good luck.

Santee Lakes would be my first thought too. Lots of space and activities there including a pool, fishing, hot tub, bike paths etc. It's only 15 miles from San Diego.

Spring or fall Joshua Tree National park, lots of hiking/biking paths, not too hilly so good for all. Very hot in summer and very cold in winter. Spring and fall are very nice.
