Hey everyone,
We are just starting to look at getting our 5th wheel and truck. We know we want diesel because of the power and fuel economy but are not sure which one to get. Of course when we talk to people everyone has a different opinion so I am coming here for more opinions.
We are looking at:
Dodges 2004 to early 2007 four door short bed
Chevy 2004 to 2007 four door short bed and just read a few things about GMC but dont really know anything about them.
One mechanic says Dodge while the other says Chevy. Both base it on what comes through there shop.
Ive been told Dodge has a great drive train but has ball joint problems and the rest is still a Dodge which I have a personal grief with.
Ive been told Chevy is a better ride but they have fuel injection problems and the trani brake will shift out of low when going down hill.
As far as our trailer. We read a while back that some of the camp grounds on the east coast only accept 28' trailers because of access in the campgrounds. We are looking at 32' to 34' so I am wandering if this is still a problem. Does anyone have info on whether we will have problems anywhere in the country since we dont really like asphalt camping
Also, any suggestions on 5th wheels to absolutely stay away from and why
Any comments on experience would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help,
Scott & Cheri

Oh great question. Way to start off a new month Our Ram has been a great truck so far
I did run across this funny youtube you might be interested in.

The 2006-2007 years they both made great trucks. Earlier than 2006 I go with the Dodge.
If you like to really get away some of the older national, state parks will be rough getting into and will list the limits on their web sites.
Always call ahead or you can post the question here for good results about certain parks.

GM guys are going to say the Chevy/GMCs are superior; Dodge guys are going to say the Dodges are superior. Ford guys are going to want you know why you aren't considering Ford. And the band played on.
As a non-brand-loyalist who used to sell trucks and has driven plenty of both, my advice is really simple: drive both and buy the one you like best...they are both great, neither is perfect, and the Dodge overall quality concerns and the GM injector concerns, IMO, are far in the past and shouldn't cause you any hesitation.
Good luck, as my honest opinion is that you're in a win/win situation whichever truck you choose. Might come down to which dash layout you prefer or what seats fit you best.
Can't help you on the 5th wheel thing...

I would go with a 2006 or newer GM. If you can save some money buying an 04 or 05 Dodge you wouldn't go wrong either. The GM handles nicer, has a 6 speed automatic begining in 06, better ride and better traction. It is also quieter. Dodge might do a little better on fuel though.

I've had Fords, Dodges, and am now on my first Chevy. All were the best truck for me at the time. Forget the rumors, try both, get the one you like best/get the best price on. Could come down to driving position comfort. We bought the Chevy because the independent front suspension was easier on my wife's back.

The guy making the video could do the same with your truck. His trick worked for him.
