On my new to me 2004 Itasca Horizon, one jack won't go all the way up. It only lacks about an inch but the bell will not go off 'till we whack it with a hammer about 20 times. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I have Power Gear jacks. The left rear jack would often stop about an inch below the fully retracted position. The on-line owner's manual recommended that the jacks be sprayed with a silicone lubricant when this occurred and at about every twenty uses or so. It has been working pretty well since I started doing that preventive maintenance. As a side note, the service writer where I bought the coach had told me to spray WD-40 on the jacks. I later learned from the manual that WD-40 was not recommended.

WD-40 leave nasty gunk after the volatile components evaporate. I highly recommend what the maker says to use, or if there is nothing stated, use Tri-Flow.

drop the jack down, put transmission fluid on the rag, wipe the jack cylinder down good, if dirt comes off turn the rag over. Try again. Also check the jack manual for proper maintenance.

You have HWH jacks. The inner upper seal is bad. The ONLY fix is to replace with a rebuilt or new one. Doug

I totally agree, I spray the jacks with silicone periodically. This should fix any jack that is not retracting all the way.
My advice is worth what you paid for it!

Could be worse.. I hit a speed bump that "Spun" the jacks near as I can tell, took out the springs on both rear jacks... Thankfully I was able to fix it without spending $$$$$ on new springs.

Agreed on the silicone spray. I use it if the jacks are to be down more than a few days regardless. Also, don't use a hammer to try to get the jack to retract. Use the leverage of a long board, and it will go right up with a little pressure and will be better for your jacks.

We've had that same problem recently with two of our HWH jacks. The jacks would go almost up within an inch, after spraying with silicone and wiping they went all the way up.
Hope this helps
