ok so mystery solved. The red cable is the fuse. The red wire needs to be cut and hooked to the battery and the cable from the jack. Now my nots so mechanically inclined DH needs to figure out how to wire something together to hook that cable to the battery. Why can't they provide that step already done? It doesn't make sense to me.

there are many set ups for a jack and they leave that part up to you. One big suggestion, if you don't know what you are doing, find someone who does before you burn it up

I'm not very mechanically inclined either and I managed to install our refurb UF 3502 twice (first one failed). I just used a wire crimping connector on the red wire and the end of the black wire. I then ran the other end of the red wire to the battery positive. As others mentioned, it grounds itself through the bolts. They should have included 3 serrated lock washers that you put between the jack and the frame under the mounting holes. Here is a link to the PDF manual for installation instructions.

Hope that helps!

It is a one wire install. You need to add the piece with the fuse holder. One of the best mods I ever did.

Sounds like you have it most of the way figured out. Here's my advice on where you are in the process.

I would also use the tow vehicle to hold the trailer while I did the work.

You will need some wiring terminals and a crimping pliers. you can buy them at many places including Target, Walmart, Radio Shack, and most automotive parts stores for less than $20. Here's an expensive kit just to show you an example Link

In reality you will only need two connectors out of the kit and the pliers. Hopefully you have a sibling,father/mother, friend or neighbor that already has a kit and will just give you the two connectors.

I think he has the crimper already. Need to get some more caps and the wiring terminals. I think he can do it. He is trying and learning as he goes. He never really had a dad to teach him this stuff. Some things he messes up, some things he does well. I think he can do this with my help and a lot of help from the board. Will I let him change the oil and fuel filters on the diesel like he wants to? No way, I will pay someone to do that. Thanks again everyone for all the help. I will post after he gets it done or gets it screwed up on Sun (weather permitting).

Trust me - if I can do it, anyone can I did it while hooked up to the TV. For the inept like me it's a 30 min job. I also used wire ties to secure the wire to the frame to keep it nice and tight.

Don’t be surprised if you have to file the hole out a little to get it through the frame… mo big deal there either…

One last thing I just thought of. When I cut my fuse holder wire I just cut it in the center. This left more than enough wire to connect to the jack pigtail, and barely enough to connect to the battery without the fuse holder getting in the way of tightening the wing nut down.

If I ever have to replace the holder I will cut the next one off-center so that one piece of wire is just enough to connect to the long jack wire, and the other side has some extra length to get the fuse holder away from the wing nut.

It's a Easy level mod. Hook to the TV and lock the hitch so you know it's not going to fall. Scrape the paint and make the metal shine under where the jack bolts to the trailer. I bought a little plastic wire connection kit at Walmart in the automotive section that had plenty of connectors for about $8 that had what I needed to mount on the batter and add wire to the short cable that was on it already.

Was a 20 minute job for me and works wonderfully. Just make sure you hunt down a few replacement fuses to have on hand as they are not easy to find. I think mine are called "30 amp slow burn" fuses. Take the fuse out of the holder and take it to a RV store as I had no luck finding them at autoparts stores.
