My step-father had a knee replaced 12 yrs ago -- he had aggressive physical therapy afterwards..........from about 6 months after surgery till now you'd never guess he had a replacement. Good luck! I hope you have the same results.

Thanks to all for the good wishes. For those of you that had knee replacement. Are you able to kneel on your new knee ? My wife says she can't kneel on hers. But on one of the visits to the doctors office we meet a man that worked as a union plumber and he said he could kneel just like before his knee was replaced. So I guess its different for each person. Can any of you still kneel on your new knee?

My Step-father was kneeling on his within 3 months. He laid floor tile down for me. Did your wife have physical therapy? Is she overweight?? Those affect how you recover.

I was born in Great Falls, Mt. My parents moved when I was 5. I found them when I was 10 - they were in California.

It will be 2 yrs for me in June that I had my right knee done. I can kneel and bear weight on my knee with no issues.

Good Luck to you. Its nice that you have an idea of what you are getting into, I was clueless but thankful I did it.

I had mine done last August after 20 years of pain with bone on bone, and walking around bowl legged.
I don't know why I waited so long.
My history:
-Day 1 in the hospital they had me walking up and down the hall with a walker
-Day 2, discharged from the hospital and when I got home I was walking around the house with the walker for about an hour and then walking around the house carrying the walker above the floor
-Day 3, got rid of the walker and was walking around the house with a can, but just carrying it
-Day 4, walked about a quarter mile on the road, carried a cane, but didn't use it
-Day 5 and 6 extended the road walk
-Day 7 was walking a mile
I am a hard core canoe and kayak paddler, and my goal was to be in a canoe a month after the replacement, ( a kayak with the small cockpit requires more bending of the knee)
I ended up one week after the transplant getting in the kayak and paddling
Now nine months later, I have a whole new life and can go hiking any time I want to.

On the kneeling: It took about three months. It never hurt, but just felt uncomfortable. Now I can kneel with full pressure on it, but it just feels a little odd.

The only pain I ever had was for the first week or so if I rolled over in my sleep the wrong way.

From what I could see at the phys. therepy; the people that were in shape and not obese, had no pain or problems. the overweight people had a hard time and suffered a lot of pain.

Jack, thanks for your detailed report. It was encouraging. If I have half the recovery results you had I will be a happy camper. After my left knee is recovered enough I will have the right knee done.

Wife loves to garden but knees felt uncomfortable when kneeling after knee replacement. I bought some gel filled knee pads at Lowes, that flooring workers use, and she can kneel in the flower beds again.
