My dealer friend went to one of the sales training seminars one time that that taught that type of sales. He got a good chuckle out of it.

Never do a credit check until you can swing a deal because it will show up on your credit report even if you do not buy. Finance companies take that into consideration when giving you an interest rate. For the salesmen, "Can't Fix Stupid".

We found an excellent dealer on our first TT - in NC. We were traveling and came across this RV/Boat Dealer early Sunday morning. We pulled up, the gate was open, but no one was around...we tracked the Mgr down. He told us they were not open yet, but all the units were open and we could browse and ask him questions. We left 4 hours later, sent them an e-mail a week later, bought one and it was terrific. One other time, at another dealer, he had the sales mouth in gear "If you buy this brand from another dealer....you will never get service here" - who would want it.

I went elsewhere to buy also. I have heard this same story over and over again as I travel across the US from numerous campers I have met. It appears it is not just a particular CW it is a practice at all of them. You'd think they'd figure out it isn't working for them.
Not working for them??  You do realize that they are the largest (in volume) rv retailer in the U.S.?
Not that I am advocating their sales tactics, but they must be doing something right.

Gotta add this regarding the St Augustine CW.
In November I bought a 2008 Winnie DP that was on consignment. It had to be one of the worst experiences I've been through buying anything.
Homes, cars, trucks you name it, this was the toughest
The problem was the sales manager some little weird guy named Allan. The way he spoke to his sales staff would lead one to believe he had to be the toughest guy in the world. You'd want to smack him after listening to him for a minute. My sales guy was fantastic and truly put the deal together ande kept it moving in spite of the sales manager.
I understand that the sales manager is no longer employed at the St. Augustine. So, it would seem that things have improved.
I'd look and purchase there again if they had the RV I wanted.

I must of had the odd experience at St.Augustine CW. Salesman took us around the lot in the golf cart,looked at a few,saw one I liked,but she hated.Went home,argued about it for a day,called the salesman back with my offer.He said it was too low.No biggie.
Got call about an hour later and they said they would take it. Next day picked it up
Salesman was no pressure

Thanks for the reply.
I did get a call a few days ago from the store manager and I was in a meeting and could not take the call.
I did call him back thur 5/3/12 and got his answering machine and I left a message for him to call me back.
