Yesterday we brought home a 5th wheel. We purchased it used from an owner. When we looked at it all the compartments were open on the outside of it. I thought that they were just showing us the storage space. When we got up this morning we opened the front storage, right under the pin, my husband was sick from the smell. The same with the large storage right on the side next to it. The one under the pin my husband wash it with pine-sol, twice, he left the compartment open all day, the smell is still there but not as bad. the other compartment, the large one has carpet on the bottom of it, he left that one open also, but he plans to rip it all out. What can we use to get this smell out? We think that this guy is a fisherman and maybe had fish in there at some point?

Put some coffee grounds in a filter and leave it in the compartments for a few days. If you need to really wash anything inside, use Lestoil to really clean well.

Frankly, in a nice, way, I would contact the prior owner to determine its source. The more accuracy you have at the outset, the quicker the solution. As a seller and buyer I have shared information as such.

Use a fairly strong solution of Awesome ($ Tree or $ General Store),saturate the carpet (just pour it out of the bucket evenly over the whole space), let it set 5-10 mins then use a shop vacuum to get up all the water you can. Leave the doors open for a couple of days - should do it. Do not scrub the carpet - that might make it fuzz & pill up. Might have to do it a second time. Odo-Ban should eliminate any lingering smell. This worked on a black water spill we had last year.

Go to an Aquarium Shop and buy a bag of the charcoal they use for the water filtration. It is a much finer charcoal and will absorb bad odors faster. Many of the other suggestions above will merely mask the odor. Hopefully the source of the odor has been removed previously. Check behind any false walls to see if there is something dead back there. put the charcoal on some pie tins and place throughout the basement. Good luck!
