I recently purchased a new truck and now I need a new hitch.
Previously I had a flatbed with a gooseneck ball so I used an adapter.
I used to also own a gooseneck flatbed trailer so it made sense.

Now I only own a 5th wheel so this time around I want a normal 5th wheel hitch.
Heres the problem. New truck also has a flatbed.
The current gooseneck is a joke, I think its a B&W but it is welded in upside down...lol Currently with the ball installed the pin that locks in the ball is carrying all of the pin weight and I just dont feel safe using it. You also have to climb under and install the ball from the bottom...ugh... Some shops shouldnt be able to own a welder...

I dont mind the idea of rails bolted to the bed but I need a hitch that is shorter than one made for normal bed.

Any ideas ???

So far the only think I came up with is to just buy a hitch and modify it.... Id prefer to just find something made for a flatbed. I just havent come across anything yet...

The B&W receiver has a rim on the bottom so the ball won't fall through. There's no way for the ball to go through the receiver as you drop it back in the hole, upside down, as a plug, and it fits flush. B&W isn't the only company to make these, so it may be a different hitch. Either way, a B&W Companion just might fit the receiver so, if you feel that the base is sturdy enough, just get the Companion, drop it in, tighten it down, adjust the side pieces, hitch up and go!

Thats the problem. The hitch was welded in upside down.
The ball must be installed from underneath.
The ball cannot be pulled out of the hitch upward but the pin weight will be sitting on the pin...
When you pull the lever the ball just drops out the bottom.

I think I would find out what it would take to grind or cut the hitch out and get it in the correct position. Then send the bill to the shop that put it in upside down.
Good luck.
