We are thinking about spending some time in the Big South Fork National Recreation Area (Bandy campground) and Pickett State Park.

Has anyone ever stayed here? Pros, cons, things to do, things to avoid?

I know there is a section of very steep grade in BSF on one route into the headquarters, don't know if we would need to be on it, haven't looked at a map really closely.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering which campground was better.

The Bandy campground will be cheaper for us, too, with the bigger senior discount. That's a good deal with electric and water at the site.

Thanks for the info!

How close together are the sites? We prefer a little space if possible.

We stopped at Bandy Creek a year ago and enjoyed it. Nice park with lots of hiking and a swimming pool. A great place if you're into horses. Here is a review of our visit along with some pictures.

Have a great trip!

Bandy Creek is a very nice campground. All sites have W/E and four have 50 amp. The area is very popular with hikers and horse owners. No problems getting there but it would be best to approach from the west from Jamestown. If you come in from the east you have to go down into the river gorge and back out again. This is steep with tight switchbacks. The river itself is beautiful with many hiking opportunities and is about a mile or so from the campground. Pickett SP is also nice with hiking. The campground is older and most of the sites are small. It would be better to stay at Bandy Creek and take a day trip to Pickett. There are lots of trails with caves and arches to see.

I believe we were in loop C was plenty of room on site, price was also right. But do take some wire to tie water handle to stay on many of them don't work right at Brandy Creek.
