I would set up in my yard and live in it and check everything out there. better to be close to home if you find a problem. it will not take you very long to get used to the set-up procedure once you do it a few times.

Well, I'm hoping you won't laugh if I tell you that I NEED to find instruction on the set-up procedures!! MANY questions...searching the internet! From pull up and stop to EVERYTHING else.

The weather seems to be warming up pretty well this spring. Our alfalfa is very green and growing already and we haven't started irrigating yet. We can get snow storms up into June but that weather usually passes on through and only lasts a few days. You will have a great time during the summer near Yellowstone. They have a pretty reliable RV dealer in Powell that does honest repairs if you need them.

Have a great summer and enjoy Wyoming.

I can't wait....and, any info on a reliable mechanic will be appreciated just in case. I will be at Headwaters Lodge/Flagg Ranch area through Oct. 1st

Thank you...tires are definitely being replaced this week. I had not heard about the brake fluid flush though, so will check on that. Mechanically I am having everything checked out....my problem is: start to finish, I do NOT know the procedures to turn everything on and use the systems daily!! I mean, how to hook to electric (isn't there something in the MH that would need to be switched off/on at this point?), same with hooking to water, propane tank off and on, hooking to sewer etc. EVERYTHING! I am searching for someone right now on Craiglist (locally) to see if they would do a tutorial with me on all the systems.

Tw things I would check before taking off on along trip is the age of the tires first. RV tires look good but lack of use makes them very susceptible to blowouts from age. One side of the tire has DOT numbers and letters. At the end of the numbers should be 3 or 4 numbers. If there are only 3 the tires are already junk. 4 numbers in a row would give you the date the tires were made by listing the week in the first 2 and the year in the last 2. 1112 would indicate the 11th week of 2012. If a tire is over 5 years old I would suggest taking it to the local tire dealer for that brand tire for inspection. The second item is to flush the brake fluid before a trip. Brake fluid accumulates moisture while sitting and that will cause your brakes to go out on a downhill run when you use the brakes. I would definitely also buy an electric heater for some help on the cold times out there. We were in Yellowstone on Father's Day 2003 and saw Old Faithful in a blizzard. A Flair is not the best insulated MH. Don't get a large heater because you will only have 30 amps total. Smaller is better and make sure it can be run on a lower setting than high only. Good Luck and enjoy your summer there.

If it is a diesel engine I have heard Wyoming Diesel on Yellowstone highway in Cody is pretty reliable. I have a Ford and I take it to the Ford garage on the Powell highway in Cody. I've been happy with their work.

Quite a ways to Cody from Flagg Ranch. Just guessing but I think it is about 70 miles from Cody to the park.

I agree you need to have someone come give you a long walk thru, going thru all the systems. Trying to detail everything in text on this site may not be as helpful but I suggest doing searches on this site to find out as much as you can.

I'd find a local RV dealer. I'm sure they have someone there who can help you. If you choose someone off of a site like Craig's list...hard to tell who you might come up with...stick with a pro or quite possibly ask someone parked at a local RV park may be able to help. If we were closer we'd be willing to help a newbie get going.

Have a great summer.

Thanks!! Problem is, nearest RV dealer is in Nashville and I called them. I didn't buy the RV from them, so they can't help me with the walk-thru!! I found a mechanic, but without really looking into ANYTHING he is telling me $3500-$5000....and he hasn't started anything up or checked anything but the tires (on sight, we all know the tires need to be replaced. I've gotten quotes from $1400-$2400). Not sure what the other $$ would be for. But, if I go with HIM I can maybe ask for the time to go thru the parking/driving procedures.

Wait! Weight! Take it a CAT scale and find out how much it weighs driving out of the driveway. Then weigh it again as you load up the assorted stuff in that accumulates in the basement storage.
Check the DOT date stamp on the tires. If they're over six years old, make a trip to the tire store (tire aren't cheap, but they are the weak link in any RV design).
Good luck, and stay in touch.

I can't tell if your "mechanic" actually looked at your RV or not but if he's just quoting $3500 to $5000 without actually looking at it then he's not the guy you want. If this is the "mechanic" who inspected your RV before you bought it, and if you paid him anything and he didn't give you a written assessment of the RV, then he cheated you. I wonder what that $3500-$5000 is supposed to cover.

When you plug your rig into shore power there is a relay inside the RV that switches everything over to work on that power. When you disconnect it should revert to the generator (assuming you have one of those).

Use Google to find a Fleetwood RV dealer near you and call them to see if you can buy a manual or copy a manual from something they have. Ask a salesman if you can arrange to have them walk you through your RV to teach you the basics. This should not cost more than about $100.

Re-state your problem in a new topic here so that it's more specific to what you need: "1999 Fleetwood Flair Newbie - Help" might get more attention from those who own (or have owned) your coach before.

Go check the dates on the tires. This is a critical issue because you will be relying on those tires to get you to WY. If the previous owners stored the rig inside then that's good... driving it once a month is good, too. Lying to you about it... probably not so good.

Good luck.

Craig
