Was wondering how many people have the mounted tool box behind the cab of their truck, and if any problems occur with it when making turns with the 5er ?

Several companies ( I got mine at Lowes ) make tool boxes that set on the floor of the pick-up bed so that they are not above the side rails and interfere with the trailer. I have mine mounted about 2 " off the floor. It is slightly above the bed rails, but I can slide lumber, etc under the bed for better use.

we just install a DeeZee 60 x 24 x 24 job site box in our truck bed (leaving for Alaska in 2 weeks) we had to cut the 3 in legs off it as we felt would be too close when or if making real sharp turns. Also added 2 in hitch to pin of 5th wheel to hold bike rake. Have rack on back of camper to hold large cooler. plus canoe rack over truck cab.

Tool box that mounts below the bed sides and Honda 2KW generators on each tailgate side of the truck is standard layout for many RV'ers with fifth wheels.

When I was running my fifth wheel I also used one of the hard plastic FOLD-A-COVER that would fold back on top of the tool box and worked well with my fifth wheel hitch as well. Kinda like to hide whats in my truck bed when not hooked up to the trailer. Still use the truck cover today with my pull travel trailers.

Search on google for "Truck tool box for fifth wheels" to get some company names that sell them...

I have 2 saddle (pork chop) tool boxes installed between the wheel well and the cab. They sit about a half inch below the bed cap and don't get in the way.

Tractor Supply sells nice diamond plate boxes. Above the rails works here, but I have the long bed. I also found that a tonneau for a short bed fills the space from the box to the tailgate. Finally I made it hinge about 18" from the front which allows access to the box lock & handles.

I have a Tractor Supply (actually DeeZee) low profile box. It's nice because I can see the hitch when backing up and get it lined up to the pin fairly easily. It wasn't real expensive but the hardware is cheesy. I've had to repair two failed latches & grandson broke a cylinder connection trying to open the lid too far. If I ever buy another I'll take a closer look at the latching hardware.

I have a low profile utility box that sticks up above the rails about 2-inches. No clearance problems.

Ditto, but I also have a long box and don't think I'd have clearance problems regardless of how high it was above the rails.

I got the low profile (12 years ago) because the higher profile box on my previous truck blocked my view and made it hard to hook-up. (Couldn't see the hitch from the cab.)
