I have ordered a Surge Guard RV Voltage Regulator. After reading more I find they recommend using a Surge Guard with this unit.(Voltage Regulators work with Surge Guard power protection devices (sold separately) to provide surge/spike/miswired pedestal protection to RV and appliances.)So why don.t I just buy the Surge Guard? Which one is best or do I need them both?
2nd Will a 50amp unit work on a 30amp with th 30 amp adapter?

Get one made by Progressive Industries, far superior to the other brand.

Let me guess . . . you own one from Progressive, right?

Tvman44 is correct about Progressive. I do not own one but have researched them extensively. Only one reason is necessary. The Progressive is the only affordable unit set up for the RV environment which will protect against an open neutral. Open neutral or floating neutral is not uncommon and can cause extensive damage in an instant.

Not true - Surge Guard Product Comparison
On the "affordable" part, I believe Progressive & TRCI Surge Guards are similarly priced.

Let me ask the question a little different. If I get the Surge Guard RV Voltage Regulator do I still need the surge protector. Or do I only need the surge protector and not the Surge Guard RV Voltage Regulator.

Get you one of these or another with the same capabilities. Yes I installed one of these just before my current summer trip and I can tell you I feel much better using it than the others I have tried, including the SurgeGuard ones. The PI units do a lot more than surge protection. I plug in and if the power is good it lets it on through. I can check the voltage and amps used on both legs anytime I wish. If the voltage is out of range it will shut the power down and reset on its own. It's nice to know your ACs will not be exposed to 108 volts or less while you are out during the day but will not be shut off any longer than necessary.

What ever one you get, make sure you pay the extra bucks to get the one that automatically resets after the fault is corrected.
I made the mistake and got the cheaper one that doesn't reset, and there have been days when we come home from an all day kayak paddling trip only to find the trailer hot from no Ac since the unit didn't reset.
