arggg I'm having posting issues
Good, you need to start somewhere!
I don't know of a yellow lab being blamed for ripping some 2 yr olds face off.....pitbull not so.
The woman that had the first face transplant, was bitten by a Lab.
I own 5 dogs, and none have ever bitten, that said, I trust my pitbull more than my Chihuahua.

Statistically, there are more dog attacks by mixes than any other dog; and yet the media typically only reports attacks by pit bulls and pit bull mixes. This is because pit bull attacks (vs. attacks by any other breed) are more news worthy just like what Lindsay Lohan does is more news worthy than what the junky on the street does.

You didn't look at the links or even the article titles, did you? Clearly, the media has you pegged; if it's not about a pit bull you won't look at it. I also note that none of these articles list the breed of dog in the title.
This was in our local news today. I find it interesting that despite the ordinance being initiated by a pit bull attact there are no pit bulls registered.
Quote: Adopted in August 2004, the ordinance allows the director of Frederick County Animal Control to determine whether a dog involved in a reported incident is dangerous or potentially dangerous. Dangerous or potentially dangerous dogs are then registered, Domer said.
Some owners choose to have the dogs put down or moved outside the county rather than register them, he said.
Five dogs are now registered in the county. None are pit bulls, Domer said. They are a Jack Russell terrier, a Labrador collie mix, a Weimaraner, an Akita and a German short-haired pointer.
There's a lab mix on the list; you know one of those breeds that would never attack.
I saw a story about the RR/Mastiff attack on a televised national news program. It was either MSNBC or CBS Nightly News, I don't remember which. I read about most of those on various online news sites. Don't ask me which ones, I regularly visit several news sites and couldn't say which one(s) I saw the stories on now. I do remember the story about the RR/Mastiff mix got fairly broad coverage. I don't remember reading about the Brevard Beach incident.

At least someone saw these stories. How many of them prompted discussion on forums about making laws against these breeds?
Everyone brings up the study by the CDC which list fatalities by breed. I find it interesting that this is what the CDC has to say about their own study.
Quote: A CDC study on fatal dog bites lists the breeds involved in fatal attacks over 20 years (Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998). It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or kill, and thus is not appropriate for policy-making decisions related to the topic. Each year, 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs. These bites result in approximately 16 fatalities; about 0.0002 percent of the total number of people bitten. These relatively few fatalities offer the only available information about breeds involved in dog bites. There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill.
The general public has a real problem understanding the significance of the data found in an epidemiological study; it does not prove cause and effect. These studies look for relationships between factors in vast amounts of data that has been collected. There may be a relationship, but the actual cause may be due to something that was not collected. In the CDC study the dog identification was collected but information like breed population size, gender and status (intact vs. altered), housing (chained, fenced yard, etc), training/socialization, first owner or adopted (possibly abused), etc. were not collected and have since been demonstrated to be important factors in the dogs propensity to bite.
To be clear, I feel something must be done to reduce the number of pit bull and pit bull mixes being bred and then dumped in the shelters. I feel if this were the focus, then a reduction in attacks by these dogs would diminish. I say this because attacks by these dogs were not as prevalent before this breed became popular.
Disturbing numbers:
estimated US dog population in 2010: 65,000,000 (source: pet food industry)
estimated shelter dogs euthanized in 2009: 1,663,167 (dogsbite.org)
Pit bulls 58% of euthanized dogs in shelters in 2009: 967,300 (dogsbite.org)
euthanized pit bulls account for about 1.5% of the total dog population

Yeah, I don't recall any Chawawas on the news for mameing or killing 2yr olds, pit bull more so than not.
One of the funniest things I've ever read on this forum, was someone's comment that "nobody has ever been killed by a Chihuahua" and someone responded "Yeah - but it's not for lack of trying...."
Is it you don't hear about them or you're not listening?
The attitude is in this breed; they're just vertically challenged.
That article was funny, due to the differing versions of what happened??? I'm kinda doubting a Chi jumped off a picnic table and latched onto the kid's lip in mid-air, then hung on....... or else it's the most aggressive Chi ever to walk the face of the earth...... LOL!!!
