I looked at a used '09 Liberty at a local Ford dealer today, unfortunately, the owners manual was not in the glove box.....so I couldn't check about 4 down towing. My question is, the 4WD selector only has 2WD, 4WD High, and 4WD Lock......no neutral selection. Does this mean that this particular Jeep can not be towed 4 down? I'm not sure what I'm looking for with regard to being able to put the transfer case in neutral. Help!!!

Jeep supplies at least two entirely different transfer cases for the Liberty series. One of them does 4 down towing just fine, the other not. The difference will be on the 4WD selection lever. The version you want has 2WD, part time 4WD (4-Hi), full time 4 WD (aka AWD), Neutral, and 4WD-Lo positions.
So the answer to your question is that this one, indeed, is not the one you want.

On the '08 and newer Libertys there is a button near the selector that looks like a reset button. That is what you have to press with a pen to put it in neutral. You can go out to Ford.com and download a owners manual.

"You can go out to Ford.com and download a owners manual."
Why would Ford.com have a downloadable Owners Manual for a Jeep Liberty built by Chrysler?
To the OP, find a good '06 liberty if you can. They have a manual shift transfer case. MUCH nicer than any electonic or vacuum shift, IMO.

The Jeeps that you can usually tow will (should) have a badge on the drivers side right in front of the drivers door that says "trail rated". Also on the Jeep web site you can download any owners manual free. (at least you used to be able to.) BUT READ THE OWNERS MANUAL TO BE SURE.

Thats interesting Gary, the '09 I looked at this morning did have the Trail Rated badge installed. But, did not have a neutral selection on the drive whiz-wheel located to the left of the gear selector.

OOPS! Wrong vehicle. I just went from a '08 Liberty to a Ford Edge, so I was thinking Edge.
Anyway, you can go to JEEP.COM and download the owners manual.
On the '08 and newer Libertys there isn't an neutral on any of the selectors. It has to be activated/deactivated with the "reset" button.

correct...without the neutral position it *cannot* be flat towed without modification. i suspect that what you were looking at was an
'All Wheel Drive' (AWD) liberty. according to REMCO AWD libs have to be trailered.
