I don't shoot any critters nowadays unless it was trying to hurt me or mine. I get a great deal of enjoyment outta watching all the critters, including the grey squirrels, beautiful chipmunkees, etc...

I know this is a bit off topic, but why the concern about leakage of CO2? It's not like it is a harmful gas.

For me it was just the cost of the cylinders and the annoyance of having a need for the rifle and not having the gas cylinder.

IMO target shooters may benifit from the CO2 rifles/pistols as their shooting within a certain short period unlike the air rifle owner that needs the rifle several days apart dispactch a raiding pest.

If you use the gun infrequently, the CO2 will eventually leak out. Then you will have to resort to throwing the BBs and pellets.

No the issue its if it leaks its not there when your ready to shoot.
I get it now. Thanks for the responses. My parents have a CO2 pistol and they love it (for shooting tree rats). They've never mentioned the loss of pressure.

I have a CZ air rifle. It shoots pellets and was made in the Czech Republic. Very accurate, it's a pump gun. I've never shot any animals with it, just used it for target (paper) practice.

Something else you may try is an owl decoy, or even a hawk if you can find one......maybe a fake snake? But then again, fried squirrel with biscuits and gravy is mighty tasty.....

Where I live you can't discharge an air gun in a metropolitan zone unless it is in a basement or root cellar. When I look at my tax bill, I have a line item for "Meto fire tax", so I am in a metropolitan zone. In my garage is unacceptable! In order to hunt or trap on my own property, I need the permission of everyone in an occupied dwelling within 150 yards. Well that is about 7 single family homes and 20 or 30 townhouses -- one of which is occupied by a kid I have had to call the cops on dozens of times.

My daughter resorted to putting the snake on one of her cornstalks. The squirrel just ran right by it on his way to munch on the ear. Out of 12 cornstalks, she got one ear of corn. She has a hunting license and couldn't do anything about it.

My wife has gotten pretty good at hurling an ice cube at a squirrel through the window. The nice thing about her method is the evidence melts and evaporates.
